I also use smart pots and roots always come out bottom if you forget to drain the tray or if you have little puddles of watee. Once you drain they will fix themselves. Just don't keep water in trays by accident or purposedly. Tap root always wants to deep for water, if it's there, it will find it. Also smart pots designed so that they prune any roots that are exposed to air or light that they will die.

No worries, I get the odd plant shooting roots out the bottom from time to time. Certainly no need for an up-pot for a plant that size. I've been running larger plants in 3 gal pots with no issues. These below in current run are 4ft, the more mature plants towards the back are 6x 3gal and rocking it in the 3gal pots.

Beautiful... wish I had the light power to get that much going on.

Update: y’all who said it would be ok were absolutely right. It actually stressed it out enough to grow an additional foot and a half and side branches like crazy. I think the pruning I did helped too. I’m really excited about this sour diesel because it’s got 3 additional stems growing out of it. Never had one do that before.

Smart pots were made for this. They air purne the wild roots and thus never allow plants to become root bound. They did the same in my 15 gal
