What's your source for that? I remember there being concerns about aging systems that weren't meeting our needs & caused rolling brown outs or the summer when the grid collapsed for all of southern ontario/northern US.

The decision was between investing in green energy or more coal/nuclear plants. The end decision was to follow voters directives & move away from coal/pollution towards "green" energy. Which also created a lot of jobs as contracts with samsung were linked to producing into Ontario.

I don't know if it was the right choice, we couldn't continue to subsidise hydro rates, privatisation may have worked if Harris had finished but I don't think reductionist thinking works for such a complicated problem.
I know many of the people that run the reactors at Pickering and Darlington. They deal with the IESO on a regular basis. This is info most people will never hear about. Nor does our elected officials want you to know.

That blackout was due to something that happened in the States and caused a surge that went through the entire eastern grid.

Ontario shut down its last coal fired GS many years ago after we paid tens of millions in upgrades to fit the station with catalytic converters....Nanticoke. It was the cleanest coal fired plant in the world.

Hydro One earns roughly $7B/year in net profit; that’s slightly less than all the big banks in Canada combined...think about that for a minute!?!?

If Ford holds true to his word, at least HID lighting is gonna get cheaper to run in ON!
OPG makes over a million a day for each of its running reactors...plus what all the hydroelectric dams earn...

Nanticoke....haven't heard that in 45 years....my father worked building that plant.

I think it was Nanticoke...could be Lambton or Lennox but the point is they dont burn coal for power in Ontario anymore and one of those stations was shut down shortly after the modifications were finished.
