Take a bamboo skewer, or similar, and aerate your soil (like tenderizing meat) to collapse the tunnels in your pot. This will allow your water to soak in, rather than running thru. Water from the stalk outward, a little at a time. I've always used a turkey baster myself, to ensure even moisture.
This issue is not uncommon at all and rarely means TP'ing is needed.
Obviously, if you hit any stubborn thick roots, work around them (with your stick)
