Renewable Energy + Battery Storage = Fossil Fuels Obsolete, Even Natural Gas

In the face of recent news that says Tesla is shaking down its suppliers for 'retroactive rebates', can Musk keep Tesla alive?

Make no mistake about my motives; I really want to see him succeed. The reality is that things look awfully dicey right now.

Other than the fact that he likes to continually fuck with the electronics and software of cars that customers have bought and own without their permission, I think his company makes decent cars.

It remains to be seen if he can do it profitably enough to stay in business.
Maybe if trump would quit fucking up everything Obama did....
The Trump administration is expected to release a plan this week that halts tightening fuel efficiency standards and revokes California’s unique ability to impose stricter air pollution controls. The move aims to undo some of the top tools in the US for combating climate change promoted by former president, Barack Obama.

But whatever happened to the GOP being backers of states rights?

America needs to subsidise solar power and electric cars, from manufacture to end user purchase.

Many countries have already seen that it's a good idea and it works.

But Denmark is socialist!

approximately half a bottle of wine in volume per person per year is how much waste if produced

that isnt massive amounts

tht is waste that would be safe within a couple of hundred years...
Only about 260k gallons per year.

Who cares, right?

Anything longer than one human lifetime is unacceptable, and if you knew how half life works, you'd know that's bullshit too.

Saphon’s aim wasn’t to improve the current wind turbines technology but rather to challenge the “box” and develop a radical new way of harnessing the wind. Anis' basic idea was to remove the whole rotating system (blades and hub) and to replace it by a non-rotational sail-shaped body. The idea has evolved over time and emerged as a promising technology named the Zero-Blade Technology. The related wind converter, baptized "The Saphonian", is bladeless, rotationless, and follows, instead, a back and forth 3D knot motion, largely inspired from sailboats.

There are other designs that are also in the development stage.
Very cool! I have more hope now for renewables than ever before thanks to many informative posts in this thread. I like the idea of my house getting started on solar by not starting with the battery storage and just using panels to reduce or eliminate our daytime draw. Be nice if I can wire it myself and add panels as budget permits.

Anyone got a DIY panel company that you really like? I'm searching for a system that allows dual use with electric company power, no storage. Have a master electrician friend that can help me with hook ups. I keep getting sucked into sales lead portals from google searches, lol.

Um,

that wasn't a solar panel.

Who's going to design your system? I don't like you so I don't know why I'm telling you this, so hopefully you don't listen. Hire a professional to design and order your system, every one is different. Also, there is more than electrical involved, make sure you and your buddy can handle some roof penatrations or other infrastructure if you're going to mount them in your yard. Each design has it's advantages and disadvantages, weigh you options carefully, take your time and get it right the first time.

I appreciate your answer. Just getting started so it is all good info to me.

If you follow what the climate scientists are saying these days the models were too conservative and things are unraveling much faster. During the period know as the great dying the CO2 and methane increases were more gradual over a much longer time frame than what humans have done. The acidifacation of the oceans and their rising temps are causing mass migrations of sea life on a scale we've never seen before. They have discovered new feedback loops in the ocean currents, plankton populations are crashing and the higher acid levels are dissolving the calcium carbonate in such things as coral and shellfish. They have shown that the 15 year pause in temp increases was tied to the oceans and we are now entering a period that will see big global temperature rises, just look at the all time temp records being broke around the world this year. But none of that matters because the leaders of the world will do nothing and fiddle as Rome burns because they are too worried about corporate profits.

On this, unfortunately, we could not agree more.

In China they have these mobile car chargers. You just summon one from your car when you need a charge......

I think that electric cars should charge themselves. When the computer says that the battery needs charging, the car should drive to a charge spot, and then return.

You know, like a Roomba.

It would also be nice if the car would vacuum along the way.
