Regular or Femenized?

So it's the million dollar question.. regular or feminized? I was considering regular bc u get more seeds and I was gonna try the birth control germination method to maybe make it a female. Anybody had any luck with that? Or have an opinion of feminized vs regular? I'm only gonna be doing about 3 plants at once.

It's been my experience reg seeds you have a 50/50 chance of females. Add in the 50/50 chance they germ your looking at low odds. Fem seeds at least give you 80/20 germ and female plants.

I like fems but I scrog. I don't worry about cost as it's only a one-off. I clone from there.

I suppose if you can't plant a couple extra, assuming that two will be male, then you may as well do femmed seeds. Just know that there's no guarantee against hermies, and they have a higher rate of hermying due to the actual process of making female seeds - but that's a technicality; no need to worry...it's usually a trait that's been bred out by the time banks will sell them...just if you make your own they have a tendency to hermie a lot.
Which strain / bank you looking at?

More solid exhaust from the north end of a southbound bull. Possibly true but even knotheads grow out lots of plants without this happening. If one thinks "regular" seed females can't or won't hermie are in for a surprise someday. Buy tested strains from known breeders and enjoy your females. I do.

I have made feminized seeds and they have been 100% female with no hermaphrodites. Are you basing this on experience or what you have read?

Properly made fem seeds have pretty much a 100% chance of being female. They can not be real hermaphrodites, but they can be stressed so that they show male flowers/pollen. A stressed female that shows both sexes is technically a hermaphrodite, but it does not contain the chromosomes from both sexes. The pollen will only produce feminized seeds. Germ rates are not affected by making feminized seeds. I have had 100% germination rates with the fem seeds I produced. I'm sure their are some duds in there though.

If you take two clones from the same plant and stress one to produce pollen, then expose the other clone to the pollen, the resulting seeds will basically be clones of the mother plant in seed form.


There is a ton of misinformation about feminized seeds. I am willing to bet that it was started by people who do not know how to grow weed.
They buy fem seeds, stress the shit out of them, the plants turn male, then they bitch all over the internet about getting "hermies."


I produce fem seeds and will soon be working on crossing them.

Fem and regular seeds have the same likely hood to hermie it has to do with a number of factors like breeder genetics I think fems are more bang for your buck just research about the seeds you want research about the breeder make sure it's a solid genetic and you'll be laughing

If a plant is not stressed and shows flowers of both sexes, that is a hermaphrodite.
A feminized seed does not have male chromosomes, so it can't really be a hermaphrodite. A natural hermaphrodite will have both X and Y chromosomes. A plant that is from feminized seeds will not have the Y chromosome that produces males.
If you stress a plant that is the result of a feminized seed and it shows pollen sacks, the pollen will create feminized seeds.

If you get seeds made from a plant that naturally turns into a hermaphrodite without being stressed, the resulting seeds will be either male, female or hermaphrodite.

I wouldnt use anything but fem. Seed why risk getting male plant unless your planing for mothers then i would go for the other just becuse its more natral

Here is how this works (in really simplistic terms) Plants are bred for certain traits. To make those traits dominant parents (male and female) are selected both having that trait and bred. Their offspring are then sorted by that trait and the a male and female with the desired trait are bred together. This is done for many generations to assure that a higher and higher percentage of those offspring express that trait. After they get a stable breed with dominate traits they are looking for. they hermie the plant to get those feminized seeds. Now you grow that plant and it hermies on you because the last step of that breeding selected the hermie gene as dominant. This percentage is small but it is HIGHER than a non feminized because it hasn't been bred for that trait inadvertantly or not.

So your assumption is false.

i disagree.. there is no hermie trait, the only reason it forms male stamen is the introduction of a chemical.. i can google who it works, but it has something about the chemical halting the formation of female pistils and growing male stamens.. it's the chemical making the male bits, not genetics...
