Re-using soil

So, i've found out which plants are male (thanks for the help guys!) going to chop them tonight.

is the soil still useable?? I'm using biobizz allmix, does it run out of nutrients quickly, or can you re-use for a while?? if so, how long would you keep re-using soil before chucking it out and using fresh stuff??

I researched this when I killed my males and almost EVERYONE says not to reuse soil for several reasons but mostly because soil degrades over time. I also would think all of the straggler roots left in the soil could cause issues....

why would u do that to your plants , dont u want the best for them lol ? no way i would reuse soil its not worth it ..soil is so cheap

Haha, dude I felt like hollering "nnnnO!" like you do at a dog when I read the thread title. Stay away from re-using soil, its bad mojo. Theres so many reasons why not to, jes stay away from that man. I know its attractive to save money, but theres too many hassles involved.

I've never had a problem with re-using soil. If i add nutrients to my lil ladies there going to grow just fine, regardless.

Young man, the plant refusing to grow is not the issue with re-using soil.
-Mold
-Pests
-Fungus
-The aeration qualities of the soil are going to be vastly reduced.
-Microscopic root hairs are going to be permeating your entire medium, if you immediately re-use the soil it will be freshly composting while your new plant is trying to grow, not a good thing.

When it comes down to it, who do you want to listen to? The everyone saying not to? Or the genius who joined yesterday? Buddha18, I know this was mean but you just gave someone DEAD. WRONG. ADVICE. Its not something I tolerate, and I'd say the same shit to someone who just told you terrible ideas. I also doubt you've re-used soil for anything other than a vegetable garden.

I'm currently reusing soil, and have been for a few harvests. I use Sensizyme in the watering every week during veg, and on and off during flowering. It breaks the root mass up and actually feeds it to the plants. I also use a guano/worm casting/kelp tea to help replenish the soil.

Also, if you're a good grower, mold, pests, and fungus are never a problem anyways - why should they become one if I re-use soil?

If you're worried about there being no nutrient left in them, it's no different than hydro, rockwool, or any other nutrientless medium. Insofar as nutrients are concerned, the plant is going to get whatever you water it with. Old soil isn't going to somehow ruin that. If you doubt, check the grow in my signature.

BUT! (and this is a big but) I do add about 30% new soil to my old soil every round (to keep up the proper aeration). Other than that, it's 70% recycled soil. The key is in the nutrient solution... after all, all soil is technically "recycled." Where do you think it came from, the soil factory?

Yes your highness, I think soil comes from the soil factory.

If you've never had any type of mold or bug infestation, just wait. Its coming for you. Symphilids are one of the beefiest blights that are almost invincible, only way they'll be able to get far enough along is if you re-use soil. Do what you want, tell me I'm wrong, tell cervantes he's wrong, tell subcool he's wrong, etc etc etc.

Might as well be doing hydro if you're using a nutrient-less media. More air, and better over all control.

I have had bugs, mold, etc. I've also learned how to avoid and eliminate them. It's hard for a bug infestation to take over a sealed room; bugs don't magically spawn inside soil, they have to get there somehow. If they do get in, then I get new soil. Simple. I'm not saying re-using soil is the only way I grow, I'm simply saying if you do it right then there is no need for a new batch of soil every run.

As Buddha18 said, it's a matter of effort. I simply don't have the time or equipment to make hydro produce more than my soil grows (or at least enough more to make it worth the effort).

I checked out your grow dude, nice looking buds for sure! I'm actually pretty interested in LED/HPS hybrid so props.

If you used new soil, maybe you wouldn't have fungus gnats in your growroom right now. The gnats are attracted to dried algae and other byproducts in used soil that aren't visible to the naked eye and sometimes don't impact your grow at all. If you're re-using a batch that was wet for awhile or just unlucky, you probably baited them in.
