A Kansas lawmaker on Monday will announce his plans for legislation that would ban incense that some say produce a marijuana-like high when smoked.
Rep. Rob Olson, R-Olathe, said in a Sunday news release he will introduce a bill this session that would "address concerns regarding the use of unregulated synthetic drugs in Kansas, in particular two found in a smoke-able herbal product known as K2."
"The two chemicals named JWH-018 and JWH-073 are very similar to tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the chemical in marijuana that gives a user his high," the release said.
Olson will discuss his proposal during a Monday news conference at the Statehouse.
The products are currently legal in the state and sold in a variety of blends that deliver a flowery aroma when burned. Law enforcement officials, however, say some manufacturers are lacing incense with synthetic compounds that mimic marijuana when ingested or smoked.

thoughts?
whats next?
will it spread from here?

My guess is they will probably make some of the RC chemicals illegal. As we've seen with salvia, some kid will do something stupid and die. Then people will be frightened, thus giving the legislators all the power they need to schedule such drugs.

No , but some kid commited suicide (which you obviously can't do while on salvia), and then his mother started lobying and the law banning salvia in many of your states now is simply called Brett's law, after the young man.

Brett’s law

Brett’s Law is a name commonly given to a Delaware statute (SB259) generally prohibiting use of the psychoactive herb Salvia divinorum. The law was named after Brett Chidester (16 September 1988 – 23 January 2006), a teenager who committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.

And it's starting in fucking Kansas. Now I KNOW I live in the best area on the country to get drugs. Oh, fuck me.

I'm sure as long as the vendors are open though, and they're willing to mail it, then the illegality will prevent me from getting those RCs as much as marijuana's illegality prevents me from smoking it.

I'm not too worried about it.

You know, before the salvia shit came down, I thought Ohio was making some pretty progressive steps with how much they've decriminalized the sweet leaf. I wonder if we'll be seeing this RC ban as well. Not that I care too much, as I stay away from that synthetic crap, but still...

Ah yes I heard about that suicide over the radio as the mother was giving her deep sought concerns about this salvia mystical drug! One thing that pushes the DEA NO FURTHER than emergency scheduling a drug is a death among PEERS!

Biggest lie ever.
Nobody can avoid 'synthetic crap'...
I hope you don't drink coca-cola or eat anything bought in a grocery store.
There's a lot of weed out there that I'd call as synthetic as it is natural.
Mutant aeroponic/hydroponic growth with pure chemical nutrients.

But I'm not too worried, organic shit's killed as many people as synthetic shit.

Fake marijuana under real fire in Topeka

That didn't take long.
Just a few months after the public became aware of the legal sale of synthetic marijuana in Kansas, state lawmakers have a plan to snuff it out.
Rep. Rob Olson, an Olathe Republican, has legislation that would outlaw synthetic cannabinoids like K2, which are designed to mimic the chemical - but not legal - effects of marijuana.
"This is fast becoming the new drug of choice in the schools," Olson said.
Available for sale online and at a store in Lawrence, K2 comes in a small pouch for $15 to $30. It's a mix of dried herbs that look like oregano but is laced with chemicals designed to act on the brain like Mary Jane. There are other similar brands as well.
The active ingredients were manufactured in a lab and are just a few molecules away from the real thing. But right now K2 and similar products are legal -- even though the effects are reportedly similar to pot.
Johnson County police first discovered the drug was being used by ex-convicts on probation. They turned to K2 hoping it wouldn’t show up on drug tests as marijuana. Now police say they're finding it in high schools.
"We started getting calls from concerned citizens, from probation officers, from high school police," said Johnson County Sheriff's Master Deputy Chris Farkes.
Olson, joined by Farkes and two other law enforcement officers from Johnson County, said Monday (the first day of the 2010 session) that K2 and similar products should be banned because, for one reason, the drug's legality gives users a false sense of security, when the effects of K2 and similar products haven't been studied.
The legislation would make possession of K2 or other marijuana lookalikes a misdemeanor.

good post man... i read your post on that news site.lol well said. rep to you ;-)
I read about that kid killing himself and the parents are blaming it on salvia. First off I think I think it`s impossible o kill yourself while high on salvia. Secondly they are trying to rationalize and blame something other than themselves. Obviously he had this in his mind to kill himself. Salvia didn't put it there. Salvia has actually helped me when used purposefully.

You know some cigs in school or drink alcohol, cops/teachers don't give a fuck about that.

I actually am thinking about trying it now that they're trying to ban it... they must have finally figured out how to make fake pot work.
Know the store in Lawrence? Is it the one on Massachusetts?
