I love oil, and make a lot of it (how I got my name) but its such a pain to smoke. Seeing as you double filter and froze it, it should be a complete liquid when warm and chip and shatter when cold, I've never figured out a good method to pick up the oil and smoke it..most of the time I use my "crack pipe" or put it in weed... lemme know how it works for ya.. having a chunk on the end of a paperclip then heating upper portion so it melts off is my best method of handling it besides heating and using a dropper

I smoke it exactly like its a rock....cocaine base....chore and glass pipe .. haha....its the best I could come up w around here....if u zoom the greenish look is just thick globs of goldnn/amber....tha ks for the compliments bro....this batch I triple filtered thru three diff coffee filters seperately....

Yea I zoomed in and the green turned yellow( hence the edit and saying not much amber, also reason behind strain question ) I'm just used to my red oil for sleep. Sweet man have fun... make sure its completely evaped before you smoke or really even collect it, easiest way to tell is color differences, dark patches or grainy/hazy patches from the ISO water forming an azeotrope (happens if you heat or blow alot of air to speed the evap)

So how do u tel what itz best to collect n smoke?....by the color and consistency?...please tel me in laymans terms thanks

You may have noticed a creamy foggy ring around the edge of Pyrex or whatever as you were evapping this is called an azeotrope basically the ISO attaches itself to the water, it won't leave till all the water is gone...basically if you see any parts of oil that are foggy or swirls of color

If you melt the oil it will go away immediately ........ I don't use heat at any point when I do mine though...it will be lighter yellow and at the top of a chunk, looks waxy kinda.

Ill have some diff and A LOT more tmmrw....gotta pretty big batch evaping now...and the oil left behind on sides so far is clear as hell....quarter pound of trim....poured the alchohol in jar n just let it sit for 45 secs....no shaking or moving just sitting....then strained n filtered twice.

That oily stuff on the side is chlorophyl...try doing a wash bho style...fill a tube and pour Iso in and let it drain right thru your filter into your pyrex dish....or just do a real quick wash 5-10secs and strain it out.....if its really good trim or cut buds,i'll wash twice.I'm sure you know material and alcohol should be cold(freezer at least 48hrs)....AND have everything out, setup and ready to use:)
What a brilliant idea!

I'm going to try this, with my smallest tube, should work perfectly.

Instead of securing the coffee filter at the exit end, simply secure just a stainless steel mesh screen.

Full tube loosely and send frozen iso through the tube passing right through the material and hold that directly over the final coffee filter.

Nice thinking...+ rep

This is the best way to get good clean pure melted trichomes,I love doing it this way, it just wastes a lot:(.....i guess you could do a few washes/pours of Iso into different dishes...each pour would get less and less potent and greener. You guys are wasting a lot by using paper coffee filters.

I pour through mesh filter first so the bud doesn't sit in iso, then I use the metal filter with a paper one.. why does the paper waste? It does absorb some iso/oil but I just pour iso through that filter to get it, won't pick up anything extra doing that as the plant matter for the most part was held by the first metal filter

I tried just using the permanent coffee filter and too much debris came thru...the trichs u think are coming thru the mesh arent any good if they are...the iso destroys the trichs turning them into an oil then it dries n hardens in the plate...I triple filter my wash ....View attachment 272660520130705_172919.jpg20130705_173341.jpg20130705_173512.jpg.....im happy w how its turning out...golden amber and melts so clean n clear.....here's a batch evaping at the moment20130705_174003.jpg20130705_174010.jpg20130705_174014.jpg20130705_174018.jpg

I freeze weed in mason jar untrimmed ( cuts release the green) but I use whole plant normally... anyway pour 99% ISO acquired at Randall's for $1 shake 5 seconds pour through metal coffee filter. Then through paper coffee filters so its not soaking while draining. The paper coffee filter makes all the difference in clarity and further processing to shatter
Does this metal filter have no plastic on it? If so where did you find it?

I have only seen them big enough for my uses with plastic lining and frame.

I'm using micron screens at this time.

If you use a coffee filter, simply recover the "sift" and smoke it separately, get you high as fk.
Bi66er is right though coffee filters collect a good couple of grams especially if you tipple filter.

No its got plastic, well the one i m using now is. It doesn't leech, iso is stored in plastic...I don't notice any loss in yield with filters. I dont see how it would be possible

I've been reluctant to use it simply for the plastic lining between the two filters. I don't suspect loss in yield just contamination especially with heated substances.

Contamination might be minuscule but in the spirit of minimizing contamination in an already "acidic" environment; I have avoided it.

I never heat but I suppose that's not really the point, it won't add anything ... And again iso doesn't leech perfectly safe with plastic.. so just what are these contaminents ?
