Quick Noob Questions

Hey guys,

I've been searching through peoples grow journals for the answers to my questions.

It's my first grow so it's a massive learning curve for me and any help is really appreciated.

The first question is, when you guys refer to how many days your plant has grown, do you count the days from when you first put the seed in your paper towel (or whatever you use) or do you count from when you notice it's sprouted.

I know it doesn't really matter but I'm just trying to gauge how quick my White Widow is growing in comparison to other peoples WW in their grow journals as I could be on day 10 or day 13 respectively.

My second question is, how early on can you start to add nutes to your water? I'm using a potting soil/perlite 50/50 mix and have 2 different concentrated nutes, one is a vegetative nute with 15-5-9 NPK and the second is a flowering nute with 8-12-14 NPK.

Any help get's +rep! Cheers guys.

I start counting days when it pops out of the ground.about nutes 2 or 3 weeks after it pops,,,happy growing

Okay thanks pal, is the general consensus that you start introducing newts at about day 14 onwards in small amounts?

I've got some water soluble fertiliser that I'll be adding to their distilled water.

Oh right okay, that's what they're called, I wondered why they looked so un-weed like.

Cheers dude, should start nutes in a couple of days.

starting nutes depends on what soil you are in. some won't like it. i don't start counting my "veg." days until i have 2-3 leaf sets. it has a decent root structure by then and should be considered an established plant instead of a seedling. week 2-3 for everyone else might be week 1 for me.

okay, I'm just using an expensive 'high quality' multi purpose compost from a reputable gardeners brand mixed 50/50 with perlite. Are there set guidelines that I should be adhering to with regards to nutes being added to certain soils?

imo i wouldn't feed at all until it starts to yellow. then add nutes lightly. since you're in compost, it should have enough nutes to go through until flower, but that depends entirely on what's IN your present mix. that is if you actually know. is it a brand name or what?

yeah it's Levington Multi Purpose Compost, although it doesn't actually give figures for how much NPK there is in it. It cost enough money! So I hope it'll do them some good.

Something that I've gathered since joining this forum is there doesn't really appear to be a set amount of time before you put these into flower? Is it just a case of personal preference? Or is there a size I should be waiting to reach?

Thanks for all your replies so far dude!

it's all up to you and your room size in regards to flowering. they can double or triple in height during flowering so that should be taken into account when making the switch.

never heard of the compost, so it's best to learn to read your plants. just water until it looks like they are about to start yellowing. no point in burning them up with nutes if you don't have to.

thanks for your input dude, it's been really helpful. I didn't realise that they can double or triple in height during flowering so I'll take that into consideration.

Levington is probably one of the top brands for gardeners in the UK if you were wondering.
