Quick cloning questions

Hey all, on my third cycle, cycle 2 turned out great but yield was down. Had to chop a couple herms. anyway got some Lemon Sour Diesel and OG Kush going, looking like beauties.

So I've got another room going up and im gonna clone these babies. Questions follow

1. what's the best time to cut the clones during the light/dark cycle? they are in 18/6 veg
2. cut clones before or after watering?

i would think ater but im no weedspert, afteridk how many tempts, i finally got mine to root lol i didnt pay no attintion to watering beor i cut mine, i just threw them into my mini cloner i made, works good so far

thanks, yeah i guess itd make sense to cut clones after watering... don't want any air bubbles in those stems... thanks brah

i usually water the day before i plan on taking clones. i've never really payed attention but i'm sure i always do it during light cycle (maybe thats wrong, hopefully someone with more knowledge will say.) usually have around 90% of my clones root

You are VERY correct. I also take clones from a mother in moist soil. I think this alone helps maintain moisture in the plant during rooting. Some believe clones dont draw water from the stem but this cannot be true, my opinion I should mention.

Just make sure your clone stems are scraped lightly revealing the softer part inside, this exposes more of the precious parts that draw water up the plant. Keep the stem in contact with medium at all times. I went from 80% sucess using peat pellets to 95% using rockwool.

BTW I love the Weedspert comment.

personally, ive taken clones from a plant that i was meaning to water before i took cuts, but forgot, and they didnt turn out any diff than ones that ive taken before....i think the watering is more to help out the mother plant heal after the cuts are taken, but i could be mistaken....and i ALWAYS take my cutts during lights on, just so i have light to work in....that may be wrong too, but it all works for me...i run a perpetual, so i need 30 rooted clones every 3 weeks..and i dont have any problems keepin up with that....ganja

Your argument(comments) is correct too. I think the lights on makes the plant perky and happy, not to mention resilliant. Marijuana plants are a very hardy plant, you can dry it out, snap it in half, burn the hell out of it, then in the end if its all corrected it will survive. Not that its the best results but my point is if you give it what it needs its going to take and survive.

amen bro. And these Lemon Sour Diesel's are champions, they can take tons of abuse. they grow so fast and love their nutes.

I built my cloner too... just used a rubbermaid from home depot, some pvc, spray heads and a pump. it's a 30site machine I put together for maybe $80 tops... works great. first cycle I had 90% root in five days or less

EDIT: I found the key was a regular aquarium heater at 80-85 degrees F in the reservoir, made a huge difference. but make sure if you keep it that warm you put in a few drops of algae killer. a few drops of weak bleach can help keep it clean too

5 days!!! That's awesome. I've always been an autoflower guy using soil. Very very simple but seeds and shipping are expensive. I have a Anethesia mother going now. I attempted 6 cuttings about 3 weeks ago. FAIL. Of course I did this after toking and forgot the 45 degree cut on 4 of them and didn't scrape the outside layer on any of them. I'm 100% nube at cloning. Live and learn. Time to go do some searches on RIU. Didn't mean to steal the thread. See ya guys.

ah, autoflowers are tricky too, not the most stable genetics, I'd be wary of cloning autos. But you really can't beat an aeroponic cloner for speed anyway, there's nothing like it. when I was doing it in rockwool and water I never got any to root, it's tough. They love the mist like crazy.

I'd suggest buying a working cloner kit then seeing how it works and reverse-engineering it before you build one yourself. Getting the spray height set and nozzle / pvc fitted properly takes some work. My first cloner failed because it was wasn't misting high enough

nonono I don't clone autos because the clones would be the same age as the mother. Kinda a waste of time. It's just time for me to move on to something different. Mother plant and cloning.

Don't get me wrong. I love autos in soil. Sooooooo easy for me at least. Plant them, water them, 24/0 CFLs.

My goal is to keep a mother, take clones, and go 12/12 in soil once they root. I'm just not a water guy YET.

not atm but its just an experament, its a very small 3 site areo cloner i made ill be glad to get a pic for you tho....

This is an easy way to do some cuts.First a healthy plant in veg with some good branching,side and top views.
I use an old cutting board,a rusty razor,sharp fine pointed scissors and roottech gel.
You don't need any hormones at all to take cuts successfully but it speeds up the process and the plants are less beat up by the time they root.
How the branch looks removed with nodes attached and stripped off,I just pinch them off be careful not to kink the stem.......kinking is bad.
Stick in gel let sit for 30 seconds or so.
In this case I'm using peat pellets but it'll work in just about anything that will keep the cut from drying out while it's rooting.
Soak the pellets overnight or they'll suck the moisture outta the cuts with bad results.
Poke hole in pellet,stick cut all the way down again careful not to kink the stem.
Form pellet around stem,gently.......then dunk in water to replace what ya squeezed out by forming then put in a dome.I'm using a cake box,they come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes plus ya getta cake.......fucking A.
In this case they're about 12"s under a 42 watt cfl,just leave'em alone they don't like being messed with.
Roots take anywhere from 5 to 15 days depending on plant and temp,I will take some pics and explain how I quick harden them off and pot'em when these root.
Now the donor plant provided 6 cuts and has 4 main branches,ready to be up-potted and flowered tomorrow. ​
