Question on light set up

Ok I am planning on setting another stealth cabinet, yet I need advice.

I was looking at this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=260195079865

The question I have about this fixture is being that it uses a magnetic ballast. Do you think it would be too noisy.

The plus about this setup is you can use 175 watt to 400 watt MH or HPS bulbs

For the price I think it is great.

I am not worried about the height because i will be disassembling unit to convert it to horizontal setup

Second question is electrical usage

Compared to this item http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120379653056
Do you think it would run less electricity.

I guess my main concern right now is noise

As you can tell price is an issue. The switchable ballast systems just cost so much money

Anyway please give me your advice

See attached pic for specs on first link

Thank you so much for the advice. it has really helped me to come to a decision

I am far from setting up my second stealth cabinet. My first is smaller.

both of those ballast are magnetic. some make a humming noise louder than others. i have several fixtures and have most of them are fairly quiet. when its cool outside and my ballast is inside my room, once i turn on my circ fan and exhaust fan i dont hear the ballast anymore. if your not familiar with mag ballasts and you get one thats a little on the loud side you may not be happy. if you can locate the ballast housing in the attic might help. try and keep the cord from the ballast to the socket as short as possible.
if super stealth is an issue, you may want to look into the digital ballast. if i had the spare cash i would get a 600 watt, but ive got 7 different 400's all magnetic and dont need anymore lights. lol
and that is a 400 watt light and it takes a 400 watt bulb. you shouldnt put any different wattage in it.

check this out https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/77942-my-first-grow.html

don't laugh to much at the early stuff. like i found my 430 watt at a yard sail.

but anyway i put in lots of pics of build both flower and some of veg cab
Already ahead of ya. I have never even heard of starting a 12/12 HPS grow. Very impressive grow journal which much information

I started 24/0 then plan to start to go 12/12 when ready. Because of the small cabinet i have set up now, I plan to low stress

I just both that fixture off of ebay, and am on my way to getting supplies for my second stealth cabinet

Thanks again, you make coming to this site worth while

Question for you.

Do you know how to convert that fixture so its horizontal, instead of vertical?

i cant see it all but it looks like a sheet for that type of light rated 175 to 400 watt.
i dont beleive i have ever seen an HID light that was made to accept different wattages.
a lower wattage bulb than the ballast is rated will shorten the life of the bulb.
a higher wattage bulb will shorten the life of the ballast.

Based on the model number I went to the manufacturers website and downloaded the manual

That was the jpeg I posted
I stand corrected the spec sheet refers to what the model number means

Looks like I will be getting a conversion bulb HPS and a MH bulb
