question concerning Airstones (disc & flexible)/aerators/air diffusers

I also heard that aerating the res water is beneficially, why is this?

Also what should I get for my res, the air stone disc, the permiable flexible air stone, the micro-poire kiln fired air diffuser, or an aeroator?????

oh yeah and just put one of those $9 submersible pumps in there to keep it mixed..though the aeration does a decent job of keeping the water moving

that is the pump i use. and I only have that one air stone in it. I usually only run at about 25-35 gallons depending on stage of growth/number of plants etc.
