question about cannabutter

I have heard that it is true that it is possible to extract THC from the whole marijuana plant, is this true? The reason I ask is because I recently chopped down a hermie plant that I have been letting dry, and I was planning to make some cannabutter using the leaves and stems.

I have made canna butter with a MALE plant! So yes you can do it.

You must use a method that uses water and oil. The water is critical because unless you want to eat 30 brownies to get high you must concentrate the stuff. Basically you do not have a lot of THC but you do have some. The water/oil method allows you to soak a lot of leaves in a little oil.

Your potency = total THC
-----------
total oil

if you use a lot of oil you will have week butter.

make sense?

why wouldn't you be able to use stem??? a lot of strains have trichome the whole way up stems.
If you use the water/butter method (which is required for potent butter from weak weed) then you will need to put the wet weed/butter sludge in to a cheese cloth and squeeze really hard to separate the oil from the weed. If there re stems in it they will rip the cheese cloth. Also the stems being more stiff will soak up oil and be really hard to strain. If you use a steel press then the stems will make fibers that jam things up.

I think for stems you would need to use all stems, or maybe make hash oil with a solvent like alcohol.

Long story short, you may be able to use them, but it will be a big hassle for a little bit of TCH, and you may end up with less butter than with no stems at all. If I had not smoked weed in months and had no chance of getting more good weed, and I had a huge pile stems, I would try a big batch of stem butter.

i think he means dont put stems in the brownies
disgusting. I am thinking a lot of string in my teeth.

Would be a great cheech and chong movie. Maybe they get so many stems in there teeth that they can not talk and get mistaken for foreigners. The movie could be called afgan cheech.

i have some female plants that i stressed like a motherfucker with light leaks high temps over-under watering. so i have some burned up plants with buds that didnt really fill out. so i want to chop everything off the main stem and use it for butter. do you think this stuff will make good butter? what ratio do i use. i want strong butter. what about grinding up all the leaf and stem so no poking the cheesecloth. just powder? will i lose thc during grinding? i saw a lady on youtube who puts the leaf in the oven for 10 minutes to bring the thc out then grinds it.

I do not know about the
"leaf in the oven for 10 minutes to bring the thc out then grinds it."
method, but the toasting the leaf idea is basically sound. It does not bring out any TCH but it would help you achieve that powdery characteristic which is good. The only down side to pre-toasting is more CBD so a bit more of a sleepy high.

"do you think this stuff will make good butter?"
Like I said before it's (the total TCH) divided up by all the butter. So it comes down to just how much plant matter and just how much TCH is in it. I cant tell exactly how potent the stuff you have is, does it get you high at all when you smoke it? If no, how about when you smoke it first thing in the morning? If no, than if you want potent butter I would not use more than 4 sticks of butter for each paper grocery bag packet tight (tightly hand compacted) bone dry plant material for potent butter.

One thing to keep in mind is that there is always some loss. For example the metal boiling pot you use will need to be washed and some butter will be lost that way. If you wash your hands you will loose some product that way, if you spill a little, ect... So if your butter is super potent when you wash your hands that little bit of butter might be enough to get you high 1 or 2 times. If you make less potent butter the stuff that is lost will not be as much TCH wasted. An extreme example; say you only used 1 teaspoon of butter, all of the butter would stick to the pan and you would have 100% loss. if you use 3 pound of butter and loose a few table spoons, its no big loss, like 1% lost TCH. If you make pound cake with your butter it is easy to eat a large amount of butter. So instead of making super potent butter you could make super yummy cake and eat a lot of it, that way you will maximize the total TCH you get. If you have a small amount of plant matter you will have more loss. When I was trying to minimize effecinticy I did this by making massive batched so I would re use all my dirty pans and utensils for many batches, I would spend many days just making batch after batch of butter. Does this make sense?

An interesting note is when you do that there is a transdermal absorption of TCH because I would not eat or smoke just have the butter on my skin for a long time and I would get so stoned I would pass out. Make more butter and pass out again for days.

lmao at the last paragraph. thank you. what i have is 10 -12 bagseed plants, fem. had temp probs light leak under water over water . lol i have some burned plants that flowered for three months plus+ and neverr made good buds. just hairs. for the most part. so i figure everything but the stalk should get ground up and then i will do 3oz by weight for 4 sticks of butter. i see some doing it for 45 minutes and some for 12 hours. i was thinking the longer the better or will this degrade the thc and some point???

with lots of stems 3oz with 4 sticks of butter might be on the mild side.

12 hours is probably better. 4 hours works basically the same. If I start in the morning I let it cook 4 or 5 hours, if I start at night I let it sit for 2 or 3 hours with me watching it so I am sure it wont get too hot and then I go to bed and finish up in the morning.

Since you found that last paragraph funny I will tell you more tales of my butter making adventures. This one time I was making a big batch and woke up after passing out and realized that all the food in the house had weed in it and I was starving. Brownies, brownies, everywhere and not a bite to eat. My blood sugar was so low, it was bad. I managed to drag myself in my butter stained cloths to the McDonalds to order a burger. I think the people there thought I was crazy as I was holding by self up against the counter and stumbling around. Bad cotton mouth made it hard to order.

thats great. so you think 3 oz would be too little. maybe 4 oz then. there are hairs where the bud should be so i am assuming that it will be decent even though a lot of stem. it is stem not stalk and when i rub it with my fingernail it is dank smelling.

That sounds right, my wife hats the smell. I don't like it much either. You can spread the butter on toast, while you wait for the brownies to cook.
If you are hungry for food when you eat the butter and then eat a big meal after but before you are high you will get the most out of it. Have fun
