Purchasing My First A/c Unit

Well, the time is here and I am looking to purchase my first air conditioning unit. I understand that a mini-split would be the way to go, however, I only have around $400-$450 to spend on an air conditioning unit. I did some browsing around and found this dual hose air conditioning unit.

Would anyone happen to know how this unit would hold up? I only have a 4'x4'x6' flowering room, and I was considering lining the inside of it with a Styrofoam insulation to help contain the cooler air from the air conditioning unit. I am just getting a little anxiety as it comes time to place this order. I'm using a credit card for the first time, but I'm hoping that if I'm able to go from 1 lady to having 3-5 ladies because the temperature is in the right zone, then that is completely acceptable with me.

I'm pretty sure that I'll be purchasing a kill-a-watt meter to see what kind of energy that I am pulling out from my rooms.. especially with an air conditioner running.

I'm finding a lot of different units after looking.. just can't seem to make up my mind.. could really use some input.
 
they are mostly all the same, if you cant go minisplit, then yea, dual hose is the way to go. pop a hose on the back run it to a drain, and run the vents outside, should be good to go.

(If you go single hose/vent the exhaust will REEK of weed)

(My 10,000btu kept up in a 12x10 running 2200w no problem, may even have been a 12k, but that 14k should be more than fine)

If power is a concern, dont be afraid to drop a size to save power and price.... Do you need the heat option? No sense paying for it if you dont...

If you check that link n scroll down a bit they have the chart of that company's models n the options they have, etc. the 12k btu model is same price as the 14k u listed, but only pulls 1000W / 9.0A

I haven't seen a mini split that was within my ~$400 price range, which really only leaves me one or two options. I looked into a few different portable air conditioning units, but for some reason I keep going back to the one I chose in the beginning ( https://goo.gl/3t7V2Q ), but I would feel comfortable getting some feedback before I go throw $400+ on this purchase.

Following the URL you mentioned, the statistics chart shows the unit I am interested in purchasing consumes 1250 watts, however is that while the compressor is running and actively cooling, or the idle air flow wattage? I don't mind having a larger unit, because I would like something that's easily able to achieve what I need in such a small space, don't need a unit that will struggle to keep up. I'm running ~600 watts of enclosed, air cooled, and vented lightning in a 4'x4'x6' space, and I plan on insulating the room as well to retain some of the cooler air produced. I figure get the largest and most reviewed unit that my budget allows, and insulate the room and hope the air conditioner doesn't have to run 12 hours a day to keep up.

Thoughts? I'll likely be placing a purchase within 3-4 hours from now, but some input would definitely put me at ease..... hopefully.

I'm sure I'll be figuring out in the coming weeks how good (or bad) this decision was for me, lol.

You'll do everything you need with that unit.

Flagg (evil as he is) is incorrect about needing a drain line!

One of the best points on that unit is that it sends all the moisture collected - Out the exhaust! No need for a drain line. The unit doesn't even have one!
The above point is one of the reason's I'll say go with that.....

You may actually want to pull the intake from the room the area is in - If a tent.

Go for it.

Well, good deal then!

It will help in the long run! Be nice if it's white too.

BTW, that rated power max usage is when the compressor is running. Not when the fan is....

from specs "Self-Evaporative System - exhausts most or all condensate under average ambient conditions."

grow rooms tend to exceed 'average ambient conditions'

I learned this with my portable A/C....

So if you ask.. .say, on Amazon... like user 'Gram' asked in 2013.... about draining....

They say this: "In the back near the bottom of the unit, is a little nozzle you unplug and the water comes out. You can connect it with a piece of silicon tubing. Or just bring a small container to catch the water, I still use it and it works fine. Not a bad air condition."

If you dont, it will eventually hit full, and stop running the cooling system.

Raise it up a foot or two on some kind of stand, plug a piece of vinyl tubing on the drain spout, and you are golden. Can even harvest the water if you want... but trust an owner of one when I say, be mindful of the condensate reservoir.

That cooler will do all you need it to and then some... hows your tent/light/vent system set up? 4x4x6 with a 440 in line and passive intake should be fine, 14,000BTU air conditioner seems like overkill, or somethings working against you..., this a tent, closet, what? light exhausting outside the grow room, or outside the building?
