Prop 19 and 58pounds a day is what you are voting for!

Growing marijuana outdoors is simple in California. The anticipated legalization of marijuana - Prop 19 on the November ballot - is already being greeted with proposals for pot factory farms. Now small growers cry foul; but what did they think would happen?

It Started with Medical Marijuana

Getting legal Mary Jane is nothing new in the Golden State. The "American Medical Marijuana Association" devotes itself to protecting patients' rights and access to prescribed dope. They also work to protect patients who choose to smoke medically sanctioned weed from far-reaching consequences. A case in point is the recent news that smoking medical marijuana led to the firing of a Wal-Mart employee.

Then Came a Push for the Blanket Legalization of Marijuana

Championed in 2009 by San Francisco Democrat Tom Ammiano, the idea never really went away. As a result, California voters have the option of voting for the legalization of marijuana on the November ballot in the form of Proposition 19. Perfectly summarized by AOL News, Prop 19 proposes to make the private possession of weed (up to one ounce) legal for adults over 21 years of age. It would also turn dope into a taxable crop.

Enter the Pot Factory Farm

A savvy Oakland business entrepreneur is getting ready ahead of the anticipated legalization of marijuana. Seeking to carve out a sizable niche of the market, the L.A. Times reports that the owner of the already incorporated AgraMed proposes to take Mary Jane production into the big leagues.

The entrepreneur has outlined plans to "manufacture growing equipment, bake marijuana edibles in a 10,000-square-foot kitchen and use two football fields of space to grow about 58 pounds of marijuana every day." The irresistible hook in this scenario is the influx of ready cash and jobs: 371 workers would staff the plant, and a projected $1.5 million in annual tax payments would make it into Oakland's coffers.

Small Time Dope Growers are Outraged

Although in the past the electorate was sold on the idea of medical marijuana as a doctor-patient decision and on the mushrooming number of small-time dispensaries in Los Angeles as necessary for the good of needy patients, these same marijuana activists are now crying foul. It appears that it is no longer really just about the patient and ready availability of the drug, but also about cold, hard cash.

With pot factory farming likely to do to smalltime growers what Costco and Wal-Mart have done to mom-and-pop grocery stores and Ace Hardware, detractors - as outlined in the New York Times - ask why this proposal should be considered in the first place. Small grower representatives are asking to "bring these citizen farmers out of the shadows and into the light and give them a role in this new industry."

It is true that the mom-and-pop medical marijuana growers are the backbone of the legalization effort. It is also true that growing marijuana outdoors is a simple task in California, with little need for pot factory farming.

All that said, the activists who worked so tirelessly on the legalization of marijuana may have overlooked just one tiny fact surrounding the purple haze: Once dope becomes legal, it also becomes big business.

:hump:

Did you really think it was about legalization??? It is about taxation and monopoly!

371 employess, large warehouse, start up cost, power to run that operation..............

Producing your own homegrwon weed for about 25 an ounce, priceless....

With that said these big factory operations aren't going to lower the price and they definately won't be as "cared" for as the homegrown weed. If anything this will help the small growers get better prices out of their better weed. I do not think CA wants it legal to lower the price. If the price gets lower it won't be worth as much in tax dollars.

Maybe small growers could get jobs at the weed factory and sabtogae with some hemp pollen. :-) Big factory does not mean better and cheaper.

Unless these two football feilds are indoor and sealed up pretty well, I am more than sure somebody is gonna toss a fully flowered male (or maybe just a handful of pollen) over the fence to fuck with that dudes grow lol..

A lot of people make a lot of money off of their small time grow ops.

Its not legalization, its the "Regulate, Control and Tax Marijuana act".

So, again, not legalization, but more control along with taxes.

If you're under 21 you can still be arrested. You can only have 1 oz, you can only grow in a 5x5 area. Wtf? 5x5 area? I can't even cram two tomato plants in such a
tiny space. You really think a bud plant, which can grow up to 7 ft tall and MORE than 5 ft wide, is going to stay confined to a 5x5 area?

I'm calling bullshit.

I'm voting no.

Regulation, Control and tax (which will drive prices up) is a no-go for me.

Exactly. Only one 5x5 area per household.

C'mon riu community, don't be so quick to jump for the first glimmer of "legalization" because
its not really legalization. Its more control, more tax, more limits.

Just take it out of the system completely. We should be able to grow as much as we want, where we want, without any state official
of police officer butting into our privacy.

I'm growing 12 tomato plants this year, any one complaining about that?

No.

So why should I let some bureaucratic government official tell me I can basically only grow one plant?

Cannabis plants get huge, bigger than most all vegetables, and take up more space.

Hell, one zucchini plant will take up a 5x5 area.

I'm just floored...Be thankful you can have that!! Here i am in Oklahoma with no medical use in sight and you're crying over the grow space(5x5 space doesn't tell you how tall it is, setup a two story 5x5 box lol) you don't have to grow your plant so big and get a good yield, wish I could trade places with you and I'd be in heaven..It's called baby steps man, just take it for what it is and be thankful it's becoming decriminalized and medically used/accepted where you live. Give it time and it will only grow from there

I think the thought of weed being legal terrifies some people, their sense of adventure and rebelliousness in peril the only thing they think sets them apart from their parents suddendly becoming mainstream.....

Anyways...

The California supreme court already struck down limits once, and it only seems logical that it will happen again....

Legalize 100%
That said it takes time.

I don't see a large op beating out small grows. BC Bud and Mexi brick is every where in bulk and lots of people still go for the finer stuff.

I don't under stand this 5x5 rule. How is that some people can only grow in 5x5 yet one "savvy Oakland business entrepreneur" can grow two football field worth?

thank you for noticing the obvious, they are being hypocritical, and the only reason is so that those 4 big industrial farms will make the most money.

"dude move to california and don't bitch. IF you even read the bill, a rational person can see the loop holes that the government is going to use to fully cut out home growers. 5x5 is only two dimensions they purposely left out that last one to eventually tell you that you only get 5x5x1/8 XD don't be a tool like every other person that says they just want legal weed, look into the future or you are an idiot."

WOW! Tool,Idiot, nice, real nice.Dude, the whole damn country can't move to California & I personally don't want too,I like it right where I am in the 252.And how do you know that the last dimension was left out on purpose to fuck somebody over?
Talking out your azz about shit you don't know nothing about & calling people tools & idiots over it,man, grow up.

seriously folks, it is either going to pass or not, either way there will be winners and losers... people will be worried about going to jail for giving it to their under 21 year old leukemia suffering child... others will be angry that they can't grow as much as they want to anymore, or that there will be more competition. but in the end it is a very hopeful step in a long line of steps which may end up with full legalization (or regulated taxation like with booze)... and that's not such a bad thing now is it???

Hmm... So your solution is to vote no so anyone caught with even 1 plant can go to jail?

For all of you that what to vote no... What is your endgame? What do you expect to gain? Do you think the next legislation is going to be better?

Obviously some of you.......... don't look past the NEAR future, you have to see what they are doing. If you instantly get aggressive against other people's ideals then, i will bow out and let you see what will unfold. while i live the way i want to.

nice talking to you -.-

I ask you 4 questions and you bow out of the conversation? What is your end game beyond just voting no? I am interested...

Just more corporate bullshit. When you can make loads of money it's OK. So now it's not a gateway drug anymore?

Yes I say vote NO! Just in Feinstein is introducing a new bill that will double penalties for edibles at the federal level. So these are the people you want to tax and regulate. Guess what prop 19 will not protect you... again prop 19 gives the government the power to regulate as they see fit which could include more jail time or banning it in a city or county near you.

Sorry this bill is not the right one... again as I have said before.... you need to get out and hold these elected officials accountable and LE liable!
