presence of ammonia in cannabis vaporizing

hey all. I have a recent concern fro the amount of ammonia in most canabis. when I vaporize, in the beginning I smell the stream and it smells strong of ammonia.

so I figure the solution to this is to allow the bag vape like my herbalaire to blow it out at 300 until you can't smell the ammonia anymore as it has a dramatically lower vaporization point.

thoughts?

.

I have never had an ammonia smell.

There could be mold in the bud. Get a magnifying glass and look for spiderweb like filaments in the bud.

Don't vape moldy bud.

no bro, this is my own home grown. I flushed and everything.

I'm pretty sure it's a natural byproduct of the plant. perhaps I need to air out my bags even more but I'm sure this is present in most cannabis.

by the way my bud has been curing since last october.

most nutes have ammonium nitrate... urea, all kinds of nasty ammonia based compounds... its where the N comes from.
perhaps your plants are a little over fed N early on in flowering... did they have really dark green leaves? like emerald dark?

tho some strains just taste like piss, lol

I could have flushed an extra week. but they all got atleast 2 weeks flush.

scratch that extra week shit, the weather was total crap.

btw this strain smells awesome. it's just in the beginning of the vapor when it's first heating up the bud you can smell the slight ammonia smell so I just let it pump all that out before the real stream begins . . . .

besides, there haven't been any studies on the presence of ammonia or hydrogen cyanide in the vapor.

however BOTH of these chemicals have extremely low vaporization points by comparison, so in theory you can blow them out before you vaporize the true chemicals you want . . . . .

.

Poplars sorry about the assumption on your curing and mold.

I put my bowl on my Volcano while it heats (3-5 minutes), gives a thicker first bag (I only run 1 bag per bowl). Perhaps the preheating removes the ammonia smell, it does turn green bud brown.

Interesting.

I tried it at a lower temp with my herbalaire, but I thought of another idea.

just keep it at the normal operating temp that you usually vape cannabis with, like 375 or whatever, but let it pump without the bag for like 5-10 seconds. you may lose a bit of cannabinoid vapor, but the resulting lack of ammonia (and possibly hydrogen cyanide) probably is worth it.

I'd still like to know more information about this, there doesn't seem to be any studies on it.

Don't Forget Professor Poplars,,,,,,,weed is in no way bad for you,,but of course,,you have the solution:hump:

keep up your ignorant responses hole, you're only better representing who you truly are.

how bout you wikipedia the boiling temps of ammonia and hydrogen cyanide . . . . . . . . all below 75 degrees F. easily able to vaporize away before cannabinoids start vaporizing.

idk I think I"m going to stop vaporizing and switch entirely to edibles . . . . . . . I really don't trust that shit, there hasn't been enough research into it.

I mean seriously, there are things in certain kinds of cannabis, and even things growers may unknowingly expose themselves to through nutes with their vaporizers.

I just don't know :P . . .

edit: I mean perhaps I'm tripping about all of this in general . . . I just want more research done I guess.

I can't help you with the ammonia smell, I've vaped tons of weed, and never had that happen. Nothing but pure cannabis vapor.

Yeah don't trip about it. Maybe get a new vape, or new weed, got to be one or the other.

The only reason I smoke anymore is just for the pleasure of it. It's worse for me, and makes me choke. Keep vaping dude, you'll live longer. Edibles are a pain in the ass. omo :peace:

i have a great vape (the herbalaire.) I'll cure my weed even more than it already is.

I bet it had to do with the flush time getting cut short at the end of the season. I could have sworn they got atleast 2 weeks . . . . but they could probably use 3.

I vape all the time, not my home grown as it's not done yet, but commerical high grade.... Always cured well, and tastes great.... In the hundreds of different types/batches I've smoked from I've never ever tasted that ammonia smell you talk about...

Nothing is wrong with vaporizing, it doesn't need to be researched more, you heat a material to a temperature that vaporizes the compound you want, then trap the compound, and inhale it...

It's basic chemistry

Don't hate on the people trying to help you out, the fact that they are saying it's probably something your doing is more to help you than to dis you.

sorry I don't diss on people trying to help me out, if you knew about the arguments from previous threads between me and hole you'd understand.

regardless, I'm sure I just need to cure a bit more.

anyways, I"m not gonna stop vaporizing, I just was curious about other possible chemical contaminants, and theorizing about if it was a curing issue or what . . .. . which i"m pretty sure it is a curing issue so it's all chill.

If you don't let it dry long enough (should be like at least 7 days if I'm correct) and cure, then you will get that chlorophyll, wet plant matter, hay taste... You may be mis-identifying the smell, which in turn makes it difficult if not impossible for us to tell you whats wrong... :P

I let it dry about 8 days. cured 3 weeks. and I still open the bags monthly. it's been curing since last november. so yeah it's probably likely I was misidentifying the smell...

and hole, I only singled you out because sir verde thought I was rejecting useful information from someone trying to help, which I wasn't, and you aren't.

You guys need to both chill out and smoke a blunt together ;-)
