Pre-Harvest Quick Tips?

Trust me I have heard too much about molasses. Every few years in the growing community someone will post factual information such as: Molasses promotes beneficial microbes in the soil which helps convert unusable organic compounds into nutrients usable by the plant.
Then it turns into a telephone game and a bunch of kids jump on the bandwagon and start saying things totally out of conjecture like: "I got huge buds all because I used molasses" or "molasses increases THC content" or "molasses makes my bud taste better". Well old school growers like me just go . . .

After a while it gets hard to sort out the BS from the facts, I prefer factual scientific evidence not ideas from some stoned teenager. Ok rant over :peace:
Well said. You should be open to new ideas but you should also use your brain and research yourself. For instance when I started growing I started using molasses almost immediately so I had no idea if it was actually doing anything. This last run I didn't use it and I noticed a substantial decrease in resin and a small but noticeable dip in potency.

That's still not really scientific though, just anecdotal at the moment. This next grow I've got in flower I'm going to use it on 2 out of 3 plants and see if they are any better than the one I don't use it on.

Sounds good Kludge, are you growing organic soil? I have been on the molasses rant for a few weeks now ever since some tool told me that I should be using it in hydro systems.:wall: There is so much hype that we can't find the facts. The problem is you can not quantify your evidence, for example you noticed a small dip in potency but there could be many factors there not just molasses.

I knew the benefits of molasses in organic gardens well before the hype hit the marijuana scene. I think people who read those marijuana grow guides should pick up some regular gardening books. You will find a wealth of information and because it is legal gardening the information is for the most part factual. Then you will pick up a marijuana grow guide and just look at the cool pictures. My passion is gardening it just happens that my favorite plant is Cannabis.bongsmilie

Whoa dude, 72 hours??? That's pretty crazy sounding, what is that supposed to do? Too late for 10/14 bro... what does that do?

Exactly, plus it was bag seed so I have no idea if they are even of the same strain much less if they are the same as the last batch; I can't logically compare the two.

Anyway, one of the best pre-harvest suggestions I could give would be to make sure you have a place to dry already set up, tested over a few days, and ready to go. I THOUGHT I had a good place but it got too hot during the day and over dried the bud. If I had checked my drying room first by using a dual memory Temp/RH meter for a couple of days then that wouldn't have happened.

Hmm... I read in a growing book somewhere that 24 hours helped make it more resinous, but 72 seems like a lot.

i got one for u - n this is from an old hippie friend of my parents who hooked me up with the tip...im gonna be doin it to my plants before harvest too.

A day before harvest, drill a hole into the BASE of the stem, right before the soil. after u drill the hole in the stem, throw a stick in the hole, and let it sit. The next morning you wont be able to pull the stick out of the hole, because the stem will have worked overdrive through the night to heal itself. It throws the plant into supershock, and forces the plant to start to panic, and protect itself and heal itself. So the stem will have tried to heal by regenerating to the point of you not being able to even wiggle the stick free of the stem, and the buds will have gone into protection overdrive too, and will have produced a blanket of resin over all of the nugs.

I know there are other ways to make this happen, some peopel say by dropping the temp and turning the lights off overnight or whatever, but this method (although i havent tried it myself) comes from a source that has been growing for a LONG LONG LONG time, and wouldn't give me bunk advice. So if you want to, give that a try bro. Lemme know how it works, n take pics of the buds before harvest, n right after.

good luck brotherman.

PS - dont forget to save all your clippings. Even if its a little bit, you can still get a couple grams of hash out the bizness.

the 10/14 light cycle is suppose to make the plant think the days are getting shorter so it puts its energy into making ressin to get the flower done.

i read somewhere, from Bonz i think, and maybe al b fuct that 72 hours will increase resin production.

i did try both of these on my 1st grow, i dont know how it compares but its probably only little differences, but hey... if uve got the time then u can always try it on 1 plant?
