Potting Question

I have decided to go with a soil grow. I have 1qt containers for starting and 3gal buckets that I plan on using for the final pot. I plan to top the plants once and then begin LST. I hope to veg for the full 8 weeks if i can keep the plants low enough. I guess my question is should I transplant from the 1qt container to the 3gal or should I go from 1qt to a 1-1.5gal container then go on to the final 3gal bucket? Will a 3gallon bucket take me through to the end using the methods described above? I want to get the maximum root to soil ratio I can without transplanting too many times. Please any thoughts or sugestions are welcomed.

You can go either way bro. For 8 weeks of veg..you may even want to look into 5 gal pots.

*I* transplant multiple times. Large styrofoam cups to 1 gals...then to 2 or 3 gals. However, I only veg for a month or so.

I like to transplnt up because I like to see that my roots are fully formed before slapping em into TOO big of a pot where I cannot inspect the rootball and see what is really going on.

good luck

I guess I will use a three step method 1qt to 1gal to 3gal.
Can I use the 1gal containers up too the plants show sex?
I do not want to transplant in the flowering cycle, unless there would be no problem with transplanting in the 1st or 2nd week of flower.
I am afraid that transplanting may hinder bud production.
I have limited space and can only have 2 3gal pots in my final chamber there fore sexing in the 3gal buckets will limit my chances.
My goal is to end up with one bushy female.
I want to make this first grow as smooth as possible so any advice is welcomed.

Thanks Guys and Gals in advance

till week 4 i would go across the size of an 1/4-1/3 gal pot for the week 4 till 6-8 i would go with 1/2-1 gal before flowering i would switch to a 3 gal one. that is about what i plan for my soil indoor grows. for my greenhouse projects i rather us a 5 gal one since the plants grow in there larger then indoors. in general i try to avoid too big pots as long as possible to avoid the danger of root rot.

I'll stick my two cents in here. The advice you have received is sound and you should follow it. If it were me, I would plan on cloning those plants between 4 weeks and six weeks depending on growth. Take at least 2 clones from each plant. Be sure to mark which plant they came from. If you meet the law of averages you will have two females in vegatative stage which doesn't require a big light, cfl's will be good enough. If the law of acerages beats you you will be starting over but you will know how to clone and grow for the next go around. VV

OK so a little background on my setup. I have a section in my closet that I added two shelves. The dimensions are 25WX16Dx37H. I will be using CFLs for veg and one possibly two 70w hps or a combination of the cfl and hps. I have three 42w 2700k 2700lim and five 26w 6500k 1600lum. I will only use 4 26w and 1 42w for veg. I will then add the 70w hps to the mix. This should give me 3200 lim/sq ft for veg and about 5400 lum/sq ft. I will be growing LST and I plan to flower at 10" or so. Again I plan to finish one plant if I can I would like to finish two plants but that is with space permitting. I will start off with 5 plants and weed out the males or weaker plants from there. I will use the 1qt containers for the first 2-3 weeks then 1gal 4-7 then the 3gal to finish. I think this should be good reight? Thanks for the input fromu all.:joint:
