Potted vs. Flower bed

Iv heard that potted plants dont even compare to the flower bed yield's, but iv still yet to see anybody try it, but iv heard the plants want their space, but i was planning on trying it w/ clones-same mother. Has anybody ever closely tested potted vs. beds, either with same plant, as clones or seedlings?

My dad said the best bud he ever grew was in a bed, somethin about the plants go crazy competing for light. I'd almost be interested to try if it wasn't impossible to move.

a flowerbed is obviously much better ... a pot is just going to cram up its roots more , as long as u feed your plant right and have good soil with manure plants in a flower bed would yeild alot more then potted plants

diet- yea thats what i read, thats whats up, just gotta get your ladys toned for the race, but for not movin them, why not just bend and then shape the plant how you want to fill the canopy, but i feel ya on that, potted is real good w/ side lighting if you can rotate them

Soma gave the advance of beds while chillin by the plants and they looked reall comortable

i just didnt want shit to get hostile in there and some punk shit happen, ill try it out first w/ clones i guess, the old lady can hop in later. But im sure seeds would work well too

if interested ill thro in Soma's break down of the flower bed- but you choose the size. I got it offline, off google or w/e.

The only thing that didnt completely register w/ me was not having a draining system, but Soma feeds his plants all it's nutes i believe, so as long as he feeds lite the plants soak up all available nutes/water- He put down like 3-4 inches of hydroton, he says he can never water enough, so fuk it lets do it

Does anyone do flower beds with seedlings? same strain, maybe different plant?

i dont understand assuming you have correct size pot # of gallons for what your looking to grow, how would say having two different strains grown in a bed going to yield more than several pots plz someone explain this to me and how much more effective is it too use a bed?

I've used 7 gallon pots in the past, but decided to give the Soma Bed style a shot. I modified it to fit my small space and it's worked wonders.

Right now I have 2 plants in a 40 gallon air layered tub... wont go back to pots.

damn Smoove thats sick, did you go with the hydrotron or put holes in the bottom? Or "airlayered", do you mind explaining that?

No holes, just the PVC pipes which go down to the 4" hydroton airlayer at the bottom of the tub.

Instead of a wooden box which needs to have the water proof black plastic liner, I just started with a Rubbermaid 40gal tub. Instead of chicken wire, I used egg crate light diffuser and instead of just hydroton, I used a 50/50 mix of hydroton and pumice stone.

How are you watering with the soma bed? How much water at a time? Seems it would be hard to gauge the amount of water needed every feeding..

Well, it really comes down to experience... I just know how much to water them. Right now I'm watering pretty much every day, about 2 gallons total (1 gal per plant), but will give a little less or skip a day here and there if I know they don't need it. This is different from when they were early in veg and not drinking as much. At week 5, I watered half as often and with much less water.

Once you learn how the plant reacts to things like over and under watering it becomes much easier to gage. Also, having grown plants of this size in pots I've developed a really good feel for how much they drink and how much water would run-off.

I wish I could give you a more measurable and fail proof method, this is just how I do it now.

Good enough for me, yea experimenting and reading your plants would be a successful route. Soil doesnt like to get real dry for an Fyi to anyone, well organic. Why did you go with the pumice stone mixture? and do you have any links to anymore Soma reading? Thanks for the the questions

The point of that layer is to supply air to the roots. Pumice is incredibly porous just like hydroton, and I get it cheaper than Hydroton from a local garden center. You could just as easily use chunky perlite instead of Hydroton.
