I think maybe you guys might be going about this a little differently than I am, so tell me why this is a bad idea.

I put my portable A/C OUTSIDE of the tent and fixed a 6" hose to the front of it and sealed off the remaining opening. Now the A/C is right in front of my window, the hose for the exhaust goes out the window and the cooled air is fed down a tube. Inside the grow room I connected a can-fan to the 6" line and used it as my intake.

I ran my entire last grow this way and it worked great. The tent exhausts into the room, the A/C exhausts outside and the air that the A/C is grabbing/exhausting is pre-filtered air from inside the room, not the tent.

Solved my temp problems, solved my humidity problems and solved the odor problem...I ran 2x 400w lights (not air cooled) in a 4x4 space and it worked out great.

This time I'm going to go with a 4x8 space and 2x 600w lights (air cooled) and I'm hoping it will work out just as awesome.

bgmike - that's the first unit I got. I'm sure it will work if you don't mind the bottom vents.

laser - I don't have a window so none of that would work for me.

Ice Boxes are something "kinda" new from www.hydroinnovations.com

You don't use ANY outside air at all. They are essentially little air conditioners attached to the end of your air cooled reflector. Cold water is pumped into the ice box which makes the grill get really cold. Hot air then passes over the grills and is cooled way down.

It can get expensive because you need a water chiller to keep the rez water cold. This will be the next thing I purchase when and if I can. You will still need to vent the hot air from the water chiller tho.

I would love to know how much hot air a 1/2 HP water chiller pumps out. This is what I will look into next.

hmm grow room without windows a source of fresh air? What exactly are you expecting here? You're in the wrong place!

very informative a/c discussion big mike glad u started it...im running a 10,000btu window a/c unit for 2k of hps light. part of my problem is im running it in a room in a room like you all were talking about..so the room the ass is facing in2 get like 95-100 during on time..unless i crack my garage door..which i have when its convienient..then what happens is passivly my 6'' 300cfm fan sucks that hot fart air in thro cracks and gaps in my enclosure... ive tryed some homemade vents 2 get my a/c exhausted. everytime ive done it, it has suppressed the heat for sure..but then makes the a/c work twice as hard..and within 10hours itll be locked the fuck up. my options are now portable or a large commerciall chiller. i wuz leaning on portable until i saw the shitty write ups by fellow rui ers in this post. i plan on adding another 1k..so i wuz leaning on either a 15,000btu portable..or a chiller..i think a portable will do it tho..i think my biggest factor is instead of pulling air of my hoods ..im gonna start pushing intake air over them soon enough..hoping to get out of a.c fullly just have it for crazy summer spikes.

laser>>>>> i really like that idea but most of the portables would have to be rigged up to blow the air into the grow room. i really like this idea and i might experiment with it. that would be awesome to not have to worry about the odor. or i could run my ion generator in the containing room.

tile>>>>> i tried to let the exhaust just go into the containing room but that didnt work. even with a window ac in the containing room, it was way too hot. the hot air is going back into the tent and overloading the whole system. so i ran the exhaust about 40-50 feet through the house and out a window. that did the trick sort of. i say sort of because the 7000 btu was only keeping the room at 80-85 on a good day. but there was definetly a difference when i got that exhaust out of there. from 105 to 85. since that is only one 1000 and i will be running two 1000 i have ordered the 12000 btu. so now i still have the problem of odor control. i was thinking of filtering all the air in the tent with a carbon filter and then take the 6inch ducting that i have hooked to the ac exhaust, and run it into a large cardboard box with my ion gen inside of it then back out the window. but then i am worried because the ion gen. runs 10 mins on and off.

so i would like to rig something up to blow the cool air into the room and not have to worry about odor in the exhaust. i just saw a perfect ac for this and i will post it next

There was definitely some rigging, but it wasn't very difficult. I have a pic or video of it at home. When I get there I'll post it up so you can see what I mean.

there was also some talk of fresh air. i dont really think the plants need fresh air if you add co2. if i am wrong i would like to know. i am using co2 boost brand bucket with pump i am hoping this is enough to keep me from needing fresh air

just recieved my 12000 btu ac hope to set it up 2morrow or next day.
I was just checking this thread out because I have a small grow in a growtent and set up an inline fan to exhaust, but with the tent closed, it gets over 85 F now, so I know when it gets hotter, I'm going to need more cooling power. I see portable ac units on e-bay and craigslist sometimes, but I want to make sure to get the right one. Thanks for the information.:peace:
