poppy tips or advice?

hi guys iam haveing a friend grow some poppys for me in his garden there papaver somniferum poppys so if anyone has any tips, advice, or anything about'em i would appreciate it if you would share it with me its our first time growing them. thanks

from seed? when were they started?

they where started 3 plus weeks ago from seed to these little round sacks with soil in them

I'm no expert, I am growing some this year for the first time. It is important to thin them out 6" apart at least.

you should also sow in the winter to get them ready for there upcoming grow. poppies take for ever to germinate

There were a couple of threads posted 2-3 months ago about PS, maybe in the Hallucinatory forum, by guys that knew all about growing them. Maybe some good contact info. I grew them a few times but never in qty. Difficult to transplant as roots are very delicate. Once they got going it was pretty easy. probably OK, but you have to have a lot of pots to make it worthwhile IMO. You don't get much latex juice per poppy.

ya probly just plant them all in the ground i was just woundering, so are they easy to grow just water them now and then type of plant?

i also read a tek on how to pull more off mg's off pods through a water or alcohol extraction so i deffently gonna be trying that

3 weeks ago isnt really long enough ago to get a good harvest, you probably wont get much unless you have several hundred flowers. usually its better to direct sow them in march through april outside, im in zone 5 so it might be different for you, but usually before it stops snowing is when you would sow them. good luck and hope you do well, they are beautiful and fun to grow

ya i think it might be 3 weeks idk for sure though i wana say a little longer but idk. my friends kind of in charge of the care taking for them but the weather here in the great lakes has been back and forth but they do look pretty good so far, but hell thanks green deffintly gonna have to try next year a little earlier.

what about feeding them a compost tea would this help with it in late season?

They like a dry soil.
