here found this while looking for a cut pod picture
Opium or Bread Seed Poppy
(Papaver somniferum)
In many politically correct American seed catalogs, this annual is generally referred to as "Bread Seed Poppy." The beautiful, short-lived flowers produce round seed pods which open at the top when ripe like a salt shaker, making it easy to shake out the small poppy seeds which are widely used in baking breads and pastries. But the same plant, or at least special varieties thereof, are cultivated in the middle and far east for their unripe pods, not the seeds. When cut, the green pods ooze a milky sap which is processed to produce opium and similar opiate drugs, both legal and illegal. In the United States, it is illegal to transport the sap or green plants in interstate commerce or otherwise produce opium, but there is no restriction on the seed, and the plants have been grown by millions of gardeners. The tall plants add a wonderful show of color in any herb or flower garden, followed by a bountiful supply of delicious poppy seeds.

Stick away from opiutes cause they are so addictive. I draw the line at heroin, crack and meth. Im good to try anything else but those three are no go's. Stick to weed.

OK, I grow poppies (papaver somniferum) indoors at 2 month interval and harvest at 4 month intervals. This supplies with me opium and all its derivatives every 2 months allowing me to harvest 6 times a year. When growing indoors:

1)Light Cycle - I use 12/12 for the first 2 months, then 18/6 for one month and then 12/12 for the final month. In theory, since poppies will produce little opium indoors, I give it a basic outdoor light cycle for 2 months. By this time, the poppies look like a lettuce with a stem coming up. Then I hit it with more light allowing the poppy to get more energy and produce more opium. For the final month (petals have fallen off, pod is growing, looks nice) i reduce it back to 12/12 so that it can 'focus' on developing more opium and seeds. By the end of the 4th month, the crown on top of the pod should be a grey/brown and be raised.

2)Growth - I grow my poppies in large soil beds in a wide closet. I lightly cover the seeds and moisten the top of the soil (using miracle grow). In about 2 days, I get seedlings. I then let the seedlings grow for a week or two and pluck the ones that have either died or are smaller thn the rest. From there I choose the best seedings and remove all the other seedlings within 5 inches vertically and 3 inches horizontally. This will let the poppies roots develop longer and wider which in turn makes a more sturdy plant with its own space. I water them with distilled water at first when the top of the soil dries (for seedlings) and when the seedlings develop their second set of shoots, I will water once every week (normally a monday) and mist the soil on thursdays (if needed....normally it is when using 18/6)

3)Harvest - I harvest the opium by doing a total alkaloid extraction rather than scoring. Doing a complete extract will give you the best yield of scoring seems hard (if you can score like a pro, then you WILL get all the opium out but chances are you wont....unless you've tried the techniques and established the proper cuts which is hard to do. Also by doing a complete alkaloid extraction, I do not have to score then early. I can harvest and extract in about 1-2 days (but its only about 45 minutes of work). I dry the extract in the sun by day and under fluorescents at night. This will give me the best yield per pod (i get about 90mg-100mg per pod this way. As with scoring, i get 70mg-80mg per pod). I grow about 20 poppies at a time which yields at least 2 grams of opium but as the opium dose goes (about the size of a match head) so about 3-5mg is a dose for beginners, i get plenty of opium for myself and others. By the time I'm done with it, I harvest the next batch and it goes on and on.

4)Conversion - I am not an opium addict nor a heroin addict. I am a morphine addict. I stop my use at heroin. I use calcium carbonate to extract the morphine (which will be a morphine base instead of hydrochloride salt). The base looks somewhat like a tanner form of crack and is smoked the same way as opium or crack or heroin (vaporization). Morphine is about 10% of the final weight of the opium so at best I get 10mg of morphine per pod. The morphine base is normally called Heroin #1 but I do not consider it like heroin so i refrain from calling it that (for both peace of mind and selling point). From that morphine base, I have the option to make morphine hydrochloride (Morphine HCL) which is suitable for intravenous injection (IV). Morphine HCL is useless/a waste in my opinion unless IV'd. I'm not one for using needles though (U-100's are watched pretty heavily now and they are not suppose to supply them to you without proof that you need it for whatever medical reason). So I also have the choice of turning that morphine base into Heroin base (Black Tar Heroin or smokable heroin known as Heroin # 2) and then convert it to actual Heroin (suitable for snorting, oral intake, IV, etc also known as Heroin # 3) and from there I can make it even more pure (Heroin # 4) which sells for a lot. But heroin production requires a watched chemical (acetic anhydride) which is a List II Watched Chemical requiring you to fill out forms and provide information (such as your address, reason for purchasing, how much was bought, etc) and buying anything over 500ml (I'm guessing here and speaking of personal experience) will land a cop at your door for inspection. Long before I started growing poppies I ordered the hardest thing first (acetic anhydride, 500ml for $25) and the next day a cop shows up and asks me about it and asked to see it and inspect the house and yard (obviously looking for other ingredients for heroin manufacture and opium production) but at the time i had nothing and got off clean. I now dont bother ordering it (but i do get the other stuff such as activated charcoal, sodium carbonate, etc) while i have someone else order the acetic anhydride. Don't be stupid.

5)Finally - Nobody's drug use is better than anyone else's. I don't care, nor does anyone else, about YOUR opinions. If someone wants to grow poppies, harvest opium, make morphine or heroin, let them. We aren't, and we shouldn't, be here to preach to the choir because all of YOUR opinions are going to go in one ear and out the other. He asked a question, we should answer, not give posts like "oh geez opium is horrible. stick to weeeeed." 99.9% of the time, the dumbasses saying such things have NEVER tried opium (and if they have, it probably wasn't real). If poppies are bad then all its derivatives must be too. So when you get beat down or hit by a car and need pain killers like hydrocodone or oxycontin, just remember where they all originated from, opium and the poppy.

That's all I'm saying. If you need any info, just let me know.

how do you do a total alkaloid extraction and how much does real opium go for? the second question is just to know because although I do smoke it I havent bought any since I was a teen and dont really remember how much it costs

wow,,, now that probably took care of most of the questions that I wouldve had,, thanx for taking the time to write all that,,,, and how do you do a total alkaloid extraction??????

@nickbbad:

Doing a total alkaloid extraction is simple. I will write it later. Real Opium prices varies but pretty much sticks to $10 per 1/2 gram but i've seen it going $10 per gram in some places where its grown a lot.

@apasunee:

No problem and this is how to do it:

WARNINGS
1)Opiates are heat sensitive so do not go above 80oC.
2)Extracting ANY part of the poppy is illegal EVERYWHERE unless permitted by the DEA. In the US it's a Schedule II narcotic.

I DO NOT take any responsibility for YOUR or anyone else's actions.

MATERIALS:
1)Poppies ready to be harvested
2)A blender (coffee blender is preferred)
3)Pots and jars
4)Stove or Heat Plate.

PROCESS:
1)Open the poppies and collect the seeds. The seeds can be used for seed tea, muffins, or next crop.
2)Crush the pods into small pieces (dust is not good as it will just dissolve. you want very small pieces though)
3)Weigh out your crushed poppies and add 100ml of water per gram in a pot (i.e: your poppy weighs 5 grams, you add 500ml of water to a pot)
4)heat the water until bubbles form and then kill the heat. test the temperature and wait until its 80oC
5)add lemon or lime juice to the water until your pH ranged from 5.0-6.0
6)Pour the poppy pieces into a jar and then pour the liquid on it (a water bottle works too. its going to get really hot though)
7)Cap the bottle and let the bottle sit for 10 hours (shaking it up every 10 minutes)
8)Filter out the now brownish liquid using a jar and coffee filter. using multiple filters helps, just make sure you pour them all into the same container.
9)Dry the liquid

When drying you can use a blow drier, stove or preferably the sun by day and fluorescents by night. the slower the drying, the better the yield.

expect your yield to by about 1/10 the final weight to the shredded poppies.

nothing to it, just be careful. you can, very easily, OD on opium.

Hey 420ganja,
I as well have a profound passion for the effects of this godly plant. I only grow outdoors once a year but I have had good success and good yields from my plants. I have only scored the pods and I have the technique pretty much mastered. This year, I planted hens and chicks and giganteum strains (in previous years I have grown seeds bought right out of my local grocery store, which have proved to be very potent, despite them being your average bread seed variety). Both the varieties I planted this year have identical petal color (bright pink and purple) which surprised me.
I had a couple of questions...
Have you, or anyone else noticed a profound difference in potency between strains? Is there a strain you prefer?
Also, do you know of a good tech for the calcium carbonate extraction?, and have you ever tried an extraction of your poppy straw (the whole plant material)?
Your help is greatly appreciated,
Wally

I grow California Poppies, they're not narcotic like OPs, but they still contain an alkaloid / sedative. They hate clay, out of a good 100 seeds, only 5 or so popped. Loamy, well drained soil is a must.

The Native Americans on the west coast were known to use them for medicine, I've yet to try them myself. I do smoke OP from time to time though.

!POPPY POD Extract Charges thrownout in COURT!!! NOT Guilty NOT Guilty lol lollol ha!
HAHA.

Heres the story.

A man, a real man I used to know used to make poppy pod extract by the butt load. He shared it with his friends, but was worried to no end. until his fears did come true. One of his homies gets popped with more than a few, grams of hardened poppy Pod goo

the grape vine let him know without hesitation, that his homey was under interrigation.

so without further adue, the man tossed away his stash of poppy goo, just incase they broke my poor homie's will, incase he told them where to find the maker of poppy pills.

as I should have known my homie told them no, so they charged him with some bullshit too, possetion of Herion with intent to distribute!!!!

but when it came time to test, the lab coat couldnt guess, what this goo could be, is it heroin or tea, is it opium or mixed, or is it just all three!!!!

when the day of court began, the judge threw up his hands, they threw the charges out!!!!!! not guilty the judge yelled out load. the coppers were so pissed they reduced the charges to: "Possesion of cannibus!!!"

but the lawer told them no, my client had no grow, had no weed or even roach. he said "what are we even here for???"

My homie is ok not guilty is what they say. I guess the coppers cannot see, that its just some poppy tea, evaportated, & dried. the war on drugs has lost another TRIAL!!!!!! lololololl hAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

this is a true story. Stay thirsty my Friends
