zekedog, i dont mean to be a pain either, but im not about to tell where i got my seeds. specially to someone asking for o. poppies. that sounds like fishing to me. just do some looking around. they are everywhere.

you can get them at kmart. i saw them there today. they are legal.

Well I understand what you're saying. All in all I am really curious as to learning more about this and honestly maybe I mentioned it in a wrong term but why would I want any other kind of poppies?

so yeah I have been looking in to this more and for indoor growing I actually read that the veg cycle is 12/12 as opposed the the flowering 18/6 or 24/0. Its absolutely opposite from marijuana....Anyhow I am going to start growing these bad boys as soon as I learn more about it and how to get the most out of it

Zekedogg, have you read of successful indoor poppy growing? seems like it would be tough. their roots spread waaay out, very lateral.

from what i have seen your numbers are prob right. if sown in the spring they flower at the peak of summer.

I was down at my local Wally world buying 8 6500k CFLs, walking back to the cash register in the garden center (where I parked) I passed a rack of seeds.. What really caught my eye was "Salvia." I was like No Way! Salvia Seeds!?? Then I figure might as well find poppies too, there were 2 kinds, California Poppy and Hens and Chicks, I got Hens and Chicks.

Can I harvest the great opium goo from Hens and Chicks?

im not sure, but I dont think they sell the O producing poppies in the store. You wan to look for papaver somniferum or papaver gigantium seeds. I know the first one is the O producer, and I think the second one produces O as well, i could be wrong though.

well you need to grow them in sandy soil they like that they also like cool temps i grew mine outside you do not have to do much but make sure they have water i used miracle grow they got about 3 to 3 1/2 foot tall let them bloom after the flower has fell off there will be a green bulb that will have a crown on top it will point up then it turns down time to get the good stuff i used a ink scribe to cut the out side of the bulb make sure you do not cut all the way through the side if you do all the good stuff will drain inside so just a light cut will do i only cut one side of the plant then if you do not cut all the way around the plant then you can get more out of it oh ya you don't want to cut them after it rains it cuts down the alkaloids in the plant so make sure no water for at least 3 to 5 days to get the best out of your plants and you can not buy poppy seeds in the usa. u can not get poppys that make o here the kind they sell here in the usa are treated they do not make the kind of o you want

those aren't for lancing. H&C is supposedly the best variety for making tea because of all the "productive" surface area they have.

they are currently developing "aesthetic only" varieties in Australia but there are many sources for p. somni. in the USA.

Not true!!

O pop seeds are available in many locales in the US and the seed is legal to possess in the USA...it's the HARVESTING OF THE POD (scraping or collecting) that is ILLEGAL.

Folks...nothing you'll find at WAlly's or Casa De Pot will be the *right* seeds...no hens and chicks..no icelanics..no californias...no orientals...

you'll have to go online and search...or go to ebay like fdd said to do.

and dammit..STFU if you haven't sourced these seeds or grown the plant!

Iv just ordered 1000 P. somniferum seeds (opium poppy). It comes with like 10 different types. Some of which originated in China, Thailand and Columbia. Its going to be some fun. Killer T, why do you want the pods to open? Slice down the side, wait a day, come back and youv got a resiny form of opium. Peace

out of 300 it looks like i got 8 to survive. KEEP THE SOIL MOIST!!!!!!!!
