In another thread, some guy made the bold claim that this is what breeders do when they just need a few seeds. I didn't respond, because I didn't know one way or the other.
Anyway, my kid was growing out a seed to get some experience, that turned out to be a male and I had a few clones around from replacing my mother plants. I did 12 clones to get 2 mothers. LST and Bonsai and keep the 2 with the nicest growth habit, and I had 3 older clones in gallon pots, the rest in party cups. Been working with the same strain/clones for close to 3 years.
His plant was outside, the balls not quite open. I moved the 3 in gallon and 5 in the cups and placed them around his plant.
Well, they got knocked up plenty good, so you can most certainly use Pre Flowers for a few seeds.
Then I decided to carry it a bit further. I left the 3 in the gallons outside to make sure the seeds developed well in the sun. They did.
The 5 in the party cups, I moved back inside under the T-12's I use for clones (4-40w tubes), and the 18/6 schedule they had been under. I'm going to cut those today and dry and I'll report how the seeds matured under the 18/6. I haven't popped any out yet, so we'll see how that goes.
