Poker Texas Holdem NL. Winning the Game

Whatsup Guys/ Ladies? Finally, a nonreligious thread that can't be smacked down by elite admins. I want to talk about Poker, specifically No Limit Texas Hold Them. It is a new "sport" that has recently arrived on the scene, especially online. There are tons of "fish" for a hungry shark to catch. I never deposited online, I always started from freerolls. Takes long time, but surely I get to hone my poker skills, as this game has a ton of nuances to observe and study. Poker is unlike any other gambling game, as there are actually "pros" that play and make face time on TV. I've finally reached a level where I have extra income and can buy lots of ganja and other things with my poker money made off of the internet. So , up for discussion is anything you want. Strategies, where I play, stories, tips... whatever . Poker is an awesome game understood by few people. I guess the religious can relate someway to the mystique of poker. Afterall, many people think we are crazy gambling addicts, but once again, the public eye has it all wrong. Poker REALLY is like chess, with money! Put that in your science lab and smoke it!

Recently? Is this thread 10 years old? As for US citizens playing online, I guess you haven't heard about Black Friday, April 15, 2011?

One site gets shut down, another pops up.

Bovada.lv is currently the best site for US players. You can deposit with credit card and withdrawal is a check that takes 2 weeks to arrive. I have taken a withdrawal off every month since October. In fact last night I won a $40+4 buy in tournament for over $1,600.
One thing you are wrong about, practicing by playing online freerolls (aka donkaments) is not practicing. You have to be playing at least $20 buy in before people take it serious.
I started out playing free poker too. Both online and in bars. Once you start playing for real money live and online the free stuff doesn't do it for you anymore. I love poker. By the looks of things it should be licensed and regulated within the year in the USA. The amount of fish online when that happens will be absurd.

Yea, I heard Bovada is good. I was going to deposit some at BetOnline but went with Lock instead.

You are so right about freerolls being donk fests. I disagree that $20 stakes is high enough to make most people care. Even the 1-2 tables at places where I play are full of them. I play more Omaha because NLHE let's too many lucky players win. 2-7 triple draw is also good to eliminate lucky players but it's not available online everywhere.

Lock poker works too, but the payouts take 2 months (I'm not exagerating). There are donks at every stake, but freeroll players are far worse than donks. I'll be glad when we can play at Harrahs.com or mgm.com.

After Black Friday, I did get scared for a little while and quit playing online, but it wasn't 6 months later I'm right back at it just as hard as before. The only difference is the tourneys are $1,500 guarantee not $15,000

What does religion have to do with anything? But thanks for the seat.

Real money, online and live. PLO, 2-7 low, and Omaha eight. Home games we add in games --crazy pineapple, Big-O, 6 card split are some of my favorite variations.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I have been planning on making some deposits at some new places to get bonus chips anyway.

I was just referencing our past fun discussions. I am totally relieved that poker is a neutral ground for us to talk about something cool. I've been playing serious for about a month now. I only like texas holdem because of the all in capability. I like to feel that rush of having AA going all in preflop against AK or KK. The most important part is taking the fish home

Any of you guys read any books, Doyle's Super System for example? What do you prefer in styles, Loose Aggressive or Tight aggressive. I am a tight aggressive player. It's important to play loose when the moment calls for mixing up the play, position is important too, limping into a pot and flopping a set sure is fun

BTW, I assumed you were from the US because of your avatar.

I prefer the all-in bluff. THAT gets my blood pumping! Hard to do online with all of the donks except at the higher stakes but I prefer live poker anyway and learning to keep tells to a minimum.

Super System is no longer really relevant except for the basics covered in just about every other beginner book. I like the Dan Harrington series. He has a good method of how to randomize your play without being readable because if done correctly, it really is random. Owen Gains' book on math is really good for all types of games. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/061539745X/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&m=A1H9EDFVP7AS6V

I moved away so I could enjoy decriminalized weed and play online poker as if it were one of my rights in a magical constitution. Bluffing is the best part of poker, and I think when the cards run cold for a while, bluffs can keep a player alive if timed right on the right targets

Usually when I'm running cold it's partly because my bluffs are being called too. I tend to make about 80-90% c-bets when I'm heads up so I consider many of those a bluff too.
