plants dying with new light

ok, so i apparently did something wrong. i changed over yesterday from my floros to a 400w HPS. overnight, some plants sprouted new leaves, but most are withered and dying/dead.

so, what the hell did i do wrong? lights are about 2.5ft above the plants right now, and still on 24/7 (which im starting to think was my problem)

Sounds like you might have put your lights too close and burned your leaves.

HID will scorch your plants in a NY minute if you aren't careful.

I think you may have not read the whole post, a 400w HPS 2.5 feet away from the plants will not burn the leaves

im not sure if heat was the issue. under the lights itself, of course its hot. but im doing this in a wide open room, so the temperature of the room isnt hot.

do i need fans blowing ON the plants to keep cooler air on them at all times?

Yes you should always have a fan blowing on the plants for air circulation and stem strengthening

Ive noticed that my plants will slightly burn (like a sunburn) for the first week after switching from a flo. setup. But, if they were under the hps from the beginning, no problems.

The only thing i can think of, is that the intensity of the HPS sucked the remaining water from the pots and cause the plants to 'run dry'. You'll have to water more often with the HPS, so keep an eye on that til you get your schedule adjusted.

yo you will be okay u mave have put to much nutrients or water check for moisutere first i personally hate soil bubbleponics is cheap and amazing i got root rot with my last little grow and i now this way is fool proof and amzing results your light isnt the problem put them on a 18 6 cycle let them have some darkness too much light isnt that good for plant at that heat but u can have the light 16 inches from the plants i personally have that fan blowing on the light reflertor to maintain a nice dry room everything on my end adds up hope it works for u if u want nice results go buy a rubber maid container air pump hose airstone net pot and clay stones with a nice pro grow hydroponic and root booster hydroponicgive it a month and you remember this mishap ever happened 2 fans is alays good from 2 angles like i said one on reflector and one osculating on your ballist and plants safty first peoples

Just blow a fan between the light and plant tops and you will be fine 2.5 is actually a bit far for 400w hps unless they are seedlings. You can get the light closer just make sure to keep some air flowing just over the plant tops and get another for the plants themselves you need one dedicated to just blowing under the light in between light and plant tops also as mentioned the plants will uptake more nutes now so watch your mix

I just switched from fluoro to mh and their was maybe a day of shock but that was it.

hps is the wrong color light to veg with,I use just for flr thats it get mh and my 400 watt hps is only 6in from canopy but i'm in flower, and the light 2.5 ft is to far away no more than 12in lumens are measured 12in from top of canopy 50,000 lumens at 12in is 100,000 at 6in and 25,000 at 18in get it and what bulb are u using an 8-10 dollar cheapy or a good bulb made for growing, get back at me!!PEACE BRO!!

lets whittle this down. its an aquaponics set up, now watering 30on 30 off with the HPS. only nutes are natural fish waste, which i know i need to stock the pond more now. PH is between 6 and 7. usually around 6.5

HPS is all i could get used right now, since like everyone, im piss broke. its running a hortilux bulb, which ill most likely replace after this test bag seed grow anyway, when i move onto bigger and better things.

so.....lower the lights down to 12"?? add fans for circulation and what times, 18/6?
