Plant similar to Marijuana

I was just wondering if there is a plant out there that is similar to Marijuana in that to care for it it would be similar. I want to have something I can have sitting on my desk with a light on it and to keep it alive, and see how that goes before growing for real.
Preferably something "smallish" that I can just have sitting on top of my desk.

I don't believe in using other plants as test plants. IMO it just doesn't say anything about what growing cannabis will be like.

I think you should just go for it and not waste time and effort. RIU is here to help and i think you'll do just fine.

You learn as you go.

That is a good point. But even so, I think I would like to have a plant to display in my room if anything. Since I have never grown anything before, I think it might help with my general environment even. I can't really have a Marijuana plant sitting on my desk to calm me down, not in this house.

I definitely believe in using plants to improve the 'energy' or 'feel' of a room. Pothos is a beautiful vine that requires VERY little light. I have one in my living room and people have told me it's the most beautiful one they have aver seen. :-P

I think that would be a great plant to have on a desk... until it gets too big.

They can even grow under water! I had one in my fish/frog tank and it was awesome.

You can get them almost anywhere. Any supermarket that has flowers/plants will have them.

African violets are good indoor starter plants.

You could get a shot glass and a green onion, cut of the top and cook with it and stick the rest in a glass with the roots in the water and watch it grow.

how about planting a bag seed in a dixie cup and taking good care of it, that would work.
No other plant is MJ bud, I would say if your gonna start, just suck it up and get ready and go for the real thing.

I'd say don't bother with the desk lamp, do some real reading on here and figure out a nice small setup and start there.

I agree with these other posters.Instead of trying to grow something with similar conditions that will be a pain in the ass to find, just grow bagseed.Cheap, aside from the herb you bought, and will prepare you to spend money on seeds.:)

Yeah it might look cool to someone that hasn't smoked weed, but looks don't actually get you high, so screw that legal garbage.

GROW SOME WEED MAN!

Not sure what you're talking about...Hemp without THC is also illegal to grow though, as far as I'm aware.
Not all states there Bud, check Norml.org for states that have industrial hemp laws.

I wouldn't bother but hey if you wanna go real ag

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I posted this in gardening because as stated in my first post, I want something ""smallish" that I can just have sitting on top of my desk.".

I cannot put weed on my desk in my current situation. I do plan on growing for real some time, but for the time being, I just want to get myself into gardening in general.

I would recommend growing some different herbs to get your feet wet. You could try basil, sage, oregano, lavendar, lemon balm(I really love this one), parsley, catnip, cilantro, spearmint, & several others. Basil is extremely easy to grow even in a small container with a weak light & gives off a wonderful smell when you rub the leaves. I'm actually getting ready to start growing again after a small break & I'm considering using some different herbs as companion plants.
