I really like the idea of hydroponics and am planning on creating my first set up this summer, but I am very cheep. So I was wondering if anyone has had any success with just plain water in their set up?

Sorry mate, but the initial cost for hydro is a bit high, depending of course what sort of equipment you buy (MC GREGOR).

My advice would be to not skimp on anything. But you can work with tap water, depending what's in it. First get a ppm meter (the cheap ones if you want to) and see how hard the water is.

get a ph meter and TDS meter and emasure both and you can decide from there. If water is 130 ppm and below and around 7.0 ph you will be fine when you add nutrients, naturally lower ph and raise ppm. peace

I used plain RO water in my coco grow, ran into cal mag issues. Probably cause I wasn't giving it enough

Swtiched to tap water and my plant is loving it.
