Pickled carrots

I've got a brine recipe of my mothers that I use on occasion to make pickled carrots. If you've never tried pickled carrots they are delicious, and are way better than regular cucumber pickles imo.

Anyway, I made a dozen quarts of them today. When I was done I smoked a bowl (I don't smoke first..... accident prone with knives) and realized that I had some brine left over, and got to thinking ..... could I make medicated pickled carrots?

Has anyone ever tried making medibles using vinegar and salt in any recipe, and if so how did it turn out? I'm not sure of the science behind it being that vinegar is acidic, and how that would interact with THC, CBD, etc.

I ended up making 1 quart of them using about a 1/2 ounce of trim. I will let them sit for a month, shaking daily, and see how they turn out......

Interesting, keep us informed, would like to know how it works out.
Question: what do you intend to do with it once it's done?

Yep, I will eat some when they're done and if they are any good I will make more and give them to my patients.

So is your goal to produce pickled buds, or budded pickles? You put the trim in with the pickled carrots right? I'm a little confused, but I love where it's headed.

I'm a little confused myself! :-)

My goal is to end up with carrots that get you high when you eat them. What should probably be done is to add the marijuana to the brine as you're cooking/heating that, then using that to put in to the mason jars with the carrots, dill, garlic, etc. The same concept as when making marijuana butter with the heating/cooling process. In this case I just had some leftover brine, so I figured I'd toss some trim in their and see what I end up with after a month of "pickling".

I can dig it. I think you're probably right about cooking it into the brine, but I guess time will tell. I'm subscribed, so make sure you update this thread with your results!

The possibilities here are endless! POT PICKLED HOT MIX!

interesting idea, pickling of most sorts is water based Cannabinoids and THC are hydrophobic, might consider doing some vodka infused raspberries. One of my exs used to take quarts of raspberry and pickle in vodka for a couple of months. After winterizing in etoh makes some raspberry cocktails!

I know THC will bind with any oil, not sure if carrots have enough to count? I also know the only reason water hash works is THC does not bind with water. My thought is that it should work, although the carrots would only contain a amount of THC comparable to the brine it is soaked in and the brine would have lots of leftover THC.

I'm not an expert though, so I would recommend a small test batch!

Makes sense. This was a bit of a stoner epiphany. I smoked a bowl, had some extra brine and carrots, and decided to try it ....

I may just do shots of brine instead :-)

It would be best to make a Medicated Vinaigrette and then cover the pickled carrots .. Radishes pickle well if champagne vinegar and sugar is used to make a brine .. yummm

Edit : A Vinaigrette is made with infused oil and its easy to do as long as one is careful with the emulsifying process , food processors work best for this :)

I've never eaten bud, but I will try it when I pop the top on these. I wonder if the garlic/salt/dill will make the weed more palatable??

Update:

I took the day off today, so I figured I would sample the carrots. It's been just shy of a month (29 days). The jar was kept out in the garage, and was shaken vigorously at least once a day. The weed did not effect the taste of the pickled carrots much, but there was a slightly different flavor there. They were still very tasty.

Note: I haven't smoked today, so upon sampling these I was "sober".

I had low expectations for how medicinal these would end up being, but I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised! My wife makes budder, and does the 3 day heat/cool thing using 2 ounces of trim/lowers per lb of butter which produces a very strong end product, and these carrots are on par with that. I only ate 2 carrot spears (about 1/2 of a 6 inch carrot) and I am very medicated right now. I'm not sure of the science behind this, but I would suspect that this is similar to making bubble hash in that the carrots were kept cold while pickling and the daily agitation of the brine/weed/carrots separated the trichomes from the plant matter and is now part of the brine mixture.

Either way, I'm pretty messed up and about to go take a nap ......
