PH question

So i've confused myself today and forget what I'm doing haha. I am using "Pro-mix HP" soil and using tap water. My hydro shop guy said all his hydro buddies even use the tap water in the city, that it should be fine. So I can't really tell you the ppm etc of my tap water but I use PH drops to test my PH and it comes out obviously the most alkaline color on the scale. I forget wtf the hydro shop guy said now about PH-ing my water. I know in soil you want PH to be around 6.0-6.5... so this is what I've been balancing my feeds out to.

I think I am suppose to be balancing it to 5.5 because of the soil so it buffers out to about 6.5??

I've never checked my runoff PH cuz there usually isn't any run off, just a tiny bit sometimes. I know I know, I'm suppose to be checking my runoff and be watering until there is like 10% runoff. Regardless of this, what do you think I should be balancing my water to when growing in "Promix HP"

Thanks guys!

I only worry about the pH that I'm putting in. I pH my water to 6.3.
well if growing in soil, the soil has its own ph make up, so mixing two different ph levels will buffer out to something in the middle of the two. @az2000 answered my question. I just needed to know if I should balance lower or higher.. clearly a tad lower, thanx AZ!

Just checked my notes from when I started using Pro-Mix and wasn't sure what the ph should be:

====
Remember in “soilless mixes you need to run the pH a little higher than you do in Hydro to allow full availability of all elements. The pH you need to use is pH 5.8 to 6.5.

"Check and adjust the pH 5.5 to 5.8 for Rockwool, Perlite, Clay, Aeroponics, Hydro or Coco users. 5.8 to 6.5 for soilless systems such as Promix or Sunshine mix."

I simply went to a couple of commercial greenhouse growers (ornamentals & vegtables) and asked them. ALL said Pro-Mix liked a PH about 6 +/-.2 and that is what I starting doing. No problems after that. That is what we use today, a PH of 5.8-6.2

* Guy at Hydrostore told me 5.8 veg, 6.2 flower.

I contacted the co who makes it and since it is soiless it is considered a medium for hydroponics and the Ph should be 5.9.

Hope that gives you more confidence about my 5.8 & 6.2 recommendation.
