Hey all,

Currently wanting to add light to my flower room, using 4 1000w HIDs with XXXL "ocho" hoods. The room is 12x12 and wondering if I should go with 6 lights, or if that might be over kill and should just go 5. What do you think? Also open to other ideas, such as vertical, or other lighting options. I do have 1 spare blockbuster hood available if there is a viable configuration involving that.

1000 watt light will cover 4x4 space very well so if you have 4 of them that would be perfect for a 8x8 area which is 1k per 4x4 space... So maybe you might want two more of them.....This is assuming that you are going to use the full 12x12 space as grow space or canapy.......if not then i would make your grow 8x8 use the 4 1k lights and have some space around the boundry of the grow space.......

so i like " current " option but with each sqaure being 4x4

My 12x12 measurement actually left a little room for work space/dehums and such. I think the 6 lights is what I'm leaning toward, just dreading the investment, and the bills associated :/. I was just hoping maybe someone would tell me they had good luck stretching to a wider footprint per light. I built the room out assuming I would just have a ton of extra space, but now I want to use that extra room. 6 Lights is what I was thinking would be the ideal, probably what I'll go with ultimately.

Well my 2k lights in veg run me 250 bucks month no including extra cost for reguler living like lights and tvs and micro wave after you figure that in i was round 300 bucks a month so you should expect a big big bill for power

also some say a 1k will cover a 5x5 area i prefer 4x4 myself.......

why dont you split the room in half and flip the lights.. using half the ballasts and half the electricity at one time... dont know if your medical or rogue.. just saying.. good luck

also it depends on the style of growing your going doing to do . if your doing a sog i would do 8 600watts.... but if your growning 4 to 5 ft plants ill go with option A for light penetration purposes

If you can handle the power costs, I'd go with option 'A'. General rule of thumb is the more light (overall lumens and distribution) the better. That way any configuration you go with, SOG or even splitting the room in two for a perpetual dual bloom setup at a future date, you'll be ready to handle the conditions perfectly balanced. Having a canopy of lighting that fills all corners of your room is best even if you're using the perimeter for access walkways etc.
