Hey all. thought id share this with you. I have an African water frog that lives in stagnant water and gets cleaned out about once a week. I collect all the dirty water and water my plants with it. the water is a mix of frog feces, left over frog food, and alot of times frog skin since she sheds alot. Any plant I've watered with this water just seems to flourish intensly. so if any of you have fish or a frog or similar (obviously not the salt water kind), id reccomend not throwing away the dirty water. Another advantage to this is that the water has neutral PH and since frogs/fish live in it it's very pure and clean, PACKED with nutes that plants thrive on.

just thought id share.

Have u ever tried turtle water ?

no I haven't but I'd imagine it'd have a similar effect. I think the shedded frog skin has a crap load of nutes, kind of like slow release nutes haha. don't turtles have some kind of crap that comes off their shell thats kind of like that?

Bad assumption that the water will be neutral PH, anyone that has cyclids or any other type of freshwater fish knows that you have to have the proper PH range for certain fish, for example, my cyclid tank is at an almost constant 8-8.7 and would be singluarly unfit to water my girls with.

Also, keep in mind that the feces and other things found in commercially available (organic nutes) are composted to get rid of the bad bacteria that live inside the feces, hair, vegetable matter, etc.

Short term you would be okay but in the long run I think it would do more harm than good. Have you ever had to try to deal with a nematode infection in your soil??

id stay away from turtle water. its known for carrying salmonella bacteria and you can easily make yourself pretty sick. but the frog water is a great idea. loaded with beneficial bacteria and micro/trace elements. :bigjoint:

the frog we have doesnt need a certain PH, we just throw fresh water in there and thats it. I tested it and it was exactly 7 otherwise i wouldn't have used it :)

sounds like a killer idea. Can you take something like that to an agriculture office and get an analysis of the nutrient content?

Thanks for the tip. I don't have any frogs but when I did have a fish tank I used the water from it pretty frequently as it's PH balanced, chemical free, and filled with fish emulsions and the plants always loved it.

yeh i got a fish pond, %100 rain water and goldfish feces, left over food etc.
havent got it on my plants yet, but all in good time haha
