hi friends,

got my order yesterday and put two of the seeds into germination today.
when opening the packaging i noticed that there is a date stamped on it - it was April 2013.
three years old seeds sounds old to me.
is this common and considered normal to receive seeds this old?

thanks,
david

It is pretty old for being shelf stock at a seedbank. But if stored properly you should have no problem germinating them.

got it.
do you think that i should let the store know that i'm not pleased about receiving seeds this old?
Personally I don't think you should say anything as I don't think anything will be done about it. They'll probably end up making you even less pleased.

I'm going to say it's not uncommon for seed stock to be that old, especially when buying from Herbies, Attitude etc. Those kind of banks. They have so many different breeders and strains it's inevitable a LOT of it will sit on the shelf for years.

unless you order new varieties, the seeds are generally a bit older, I know this because over the years I noticed every time I pop some of my own beans that are less than a year old they always crack within 24-36 hours, same with new varieties that I buy, when I buy a strain that has been around for a while though is when I often get seeds taking 48-72 hours to crack... for all thats worth, as long as it cracks lol

ive ordered seeds from herbies. It was Somatic Autoflower NYCD. the seeds were dated 04-14. Its 2016. All of them germinated. 4 of them were deformed. and 2 of them were successful. tried to make more seeds with them and failed miserably.

oh yeah, by 04-14 it was the years 2004 to 2014. The seeds were 12 years old. I still have the packaging. Those arent the exact years but they are pretty significant in length.

47/2013 may also mean you got pack #47 out of 2013. Not familiar with how that particular breeder packages seeds

It came in as a free b, with 2 others they were in little kind of like ziplock bags but what I ordered came in a sealed nirvana package. Anyway best of luck.
