From my point of view you have design engineers & engineers that try to design things.

If you have to look at a hand book every three minuets to find standards, then you shouldn't be trusted with important parts.


for example : having the right countersink may make the calculations more time consuming. I bet most know what they are doing but get lazy

What it boils down to is
easy to calculate = hard to build
hard to calculate = easy to build
 
Thats were they want a good worker in the shop... Too bad they only want to pay shit wages.
A manual machinst is a rare breed and some day like the way of the Black smith.
I'm going to take some classes for Black Smithing and shoeing (Shawing) horses. Just for the heck of it.
 
I ran a Horazontal lathe 4' chuck man you'd run right into a wall first time you stood by one, had a hand rail @ it.
 
I agree with the companies that make new engineers work in the machine shop before getting to design anything. I know STIHL does this. it should be a standard.
