Novel coronavirus introduced to humans in exotic animal meat market.

This puts it to rest. It happened exactly the way the thread title says it did.

Ummm not to argue with you abandon as I myself do not think this is man made but this study does not prove anything really. It states that it is very unlikely but not impossible that it has not been manipulated. I do think it started in a wet market with multiple species of disease ridden animals kept in close quarters without regulatory oversight so in a way it was man made.

Immune response to reinfection:

Some studies have been conducted. They regard the two previous novel coronavirus strains (SARS and MERS) known to infect the lower respiratory tract as well as the four which have been around for a long time which cause about a third of upper respiratory viral infections (most of the rest are caused by rhinovirus) or what we call the common cold. The studies have produced some valuable insight but nothing concrete as of yet. It looks like you could get the same cold twice and that it is indeed the same cold and not a mutation.

In regard to those mild illnesses, volunteers were tested and innoculated in such a way as to show that while antibodies were present, they still often became ill again. That is to say that these volunteers gave samples, in which researchers found antibodies to these four mild strains of coronavirus and they were subsequently reinfected. Higher concentrations of antibodies apparently correlates with greater immune response and milder symptoms in reinfection. It was concluded, in the study that those who became more ill had greater concentrations of antibodies that also persisted longer.

I wonder if the virus can be found in animal feces?
dogshit --> fly lands on it --> next station: human apartment

one good thing which hopefully may come out of this crisis is a better understanding/awareness of hygiene.
all these dogs shitting everywhere alongside roads where children play are unacceptable to my eyes
The virus is found in the feces of those infected and several mammals have been successfully infected. There is a coronavirus strain that infects cats but can also infect humans and although it is rare for humans to catch this bug, it's not exactly subclinical, but quite a mild illness.

This is obviously conjecture but I think it shows that it's not out of the realm of possibility.

WHO changed its stance on pet cats and dogs being susceptible to SARS-CoV-2. Cats and dogs do get infected. They're still saying they don't know if the animals can spread the disease (absence of evidence is not evidence of absence).
Could you post a link to that. Thank you.

Just watched Gov. Suomo live on CNN and think he got it pretty well covered. Just the distribution of federal testkits shouldn't solely be based on the confirmation cases because, like he said - NY for example is doing relatively more tests and this, tend he come up stastitically with a higher rate. Especially potential superspreaders that work in the necessary supply chain have to be identified rather ASAP.

That insane price stacking is throttling down the number of potential buyers - which, given the importancy of widely dissimenation of these products, is of public health concern - that needs to be regulated and production needs to be ramped up also quickly. I'm sure the industry will find efficient ways to do so.

The spread of the virus from China greatly targeted many of their trading partners, in the 2nd wave lots of modern western countries were hit. Due to the demographic change there're more old people libing their - which may increase the mortality rate. I understand it's hard for politicians to jump to extreme measures in advance when nothing serious have had happened but just calming people down and waiting for the dying to make front news is also no good service to the people at all... at least, they could have layed out a plan & set the legal flags already to get things better done once the shit hits you. Just see some of the European states.

bats are everywhere and chances are someone ate some contaminated food from their droppings while in flight..it happens and not infrequently.

It has not actually confirmed that a bat was the carrier jsyk. Highly possible but not proven as far as I know.
a virologist was on NPR and explained how easy it is for the bat population to leave feces everywhere and how easy it is for humans to pick it up in places like China..they shit in flight and it lands everywhere- including your food BUT it doesn't mean it wasn't on a table, someone touched that table; spread from there.

Yes I’m sure your aware how easily it is to spread feces.

No, can't yet. Thank you for calling me out though. I want to keep this factual. I was going off of news articles that claim that WHO changed its stance because of an email to one of the news agencies from a WHO official. Also, some of these articles point out that a WHO page on pet infection has been removed. So WHO has not clearly announced a change of stance, but the apparent stance has changed.

How are things where you are at abandon?
Calm, social distancing has been going on for a couple of weeks. Stores and pharmacies and such are open and security is checking tempsas you enter. The province has been closed to visitors for several weeks. One guy was a confirmed case in Cebu a week ago. He had been to Manila. People are taking it seriously but heeding authorities and it's orderly. Supplies are available. The internet has been faster in the absence of tourists. We've had some great dives because it's just the staff members and local divers who are quite experienced. We get lots of bottom time, no need to babysit noobs. I often dive alone anyway but I have seen more rare animals as of late, people aren't out scaring them off.

My son is growing fast and smiles all the time even though "they" say newborns don't smile.

Nevertheless the authors of said study arrived on that conclusion after weighing the evidence. If you read the whole study you'll find multiple phrases like "highly possible" & "significant" that SARS-CoV-2 evolved zoonotically. They also found absolutely no evidence of genetic engineering.

I do think it started in a wet market with multiple species of disease ridden animals kept in close quarters without regulatory oversight so in a way it was man made.
No it was not *man made*! Because the usage of this term implies that some humans wishfully & willfully created that virus - which there is absolutely no proof whatsoever to support such an unfounded claim. I really can't follow your "logic" here.

My logic? My logic is yes it’s highly likely but not proven as Abandon eluded to in his opening. I read the whole study and you have said what I did. Not once did I say or even suggest it is man made did I? Why mention that? Abandon is getting upset with all of the misinformation on this thread by others and rightly so but let’s not devolve altogether into speculation even if it is highly likely.
Read the conclusion of the study! They arrived at a highly plausible carrier but not proof.
Oh ok I get it. You thought my saying “it was man made” meant designed by man, not that their lack of oversight in a dirty food market was the most likely cause.... read it again, it may make more sense lol.
