i dont think the algae will do if u cut off the light , it might tho , your best beat is to clean everything , thers a product called something peroxide u can buy , but if your get rid of it yourself then keep the light away , keep the temperatures not to hot , it shouldnt come back

I grow hydro and had this happened to me also so i went and bought some Bio Bugs to put in my water. The Bio Bugs out compete the algae in the water. I havent had algae since.

just cover your rock wool with the hydrotron so no light get to them. That's what causes algea.. light and moisture. Don't have to buy more stuff if you don't want to, algea doens't hurt your plant anyway.

Cheaper an simpler: put a cap of hydrogen peroxide in your water and make sure light doesn't saturate the resevoir, and keep the water out of the light whenever possible. Cover your rockwool with your grow medium. Use black inlet/outlet hoses and feeder hoses. I use hydroton. Thats about all there is to keep your grow algae free. Never had that problem this way. You could also change res more often before it has a chance to grow but uses more nutes and they can be expensive.
