Hey mr2 - not sure why you're using the rockwool again...it's really not necessary! If you let it germinate long enough to get a good 1 inch+ tap root going, you can put it right into the hydroton without a problem... at least that's how I've been rolling, and it's worked well for me!

Subbed!! (lol..almost forgot - makes it much easier to follow)

Do you use tweezers to pick the seed up and is the root fragile when placing in the hydroton?

Yes, I always use tweezers with my seeds, even when putting them into paper-towel to germinate - oils and germs on your hands can spoil or unnecessarily lengthen your germ time/rate. The root isn't really fragile, but you want to be very careful not to drop a freshly cracked seed on the floor/ground, so I use tweezers to go directly from the towel to the hydroton. It takes a bit of practice to arrange the hydroton so the seed doesn't fall deep into it - just be extra careful. The top of the seed shouldn't be covered - it should be suspended enough that you can pour water over it directly without it getting 'flushed' deep down into the hydroton... since you want to keep it nice and moist in there, be sure to only use CFL lights at first so there isn't too much heat that would dry-out the root that's just beginning to grow down...

Here's a nice closeup of my VK went it first went into the farm...

I know, I just feel safer using the rockwool. Plant is moving along nicely, first set of true leaves showed themselves today. They are very very tiny though prolly .25" max. Just blows me away how fast these things grow and how big they get.

hahahah this is exactly what happened to me. i let mine grow about half an inch tap root and just slipped it into the hydro easily just wedged it bewtween two pebbles. the second try however went a bit pear shaped and i dropped the seed into the hydro every time i moved a pebble to try and get to it, it fell down deeper. got it out in the end and it survived just fine so alls well that ends well i guess. i laugh now but i would have loved to have seen the look on my face at the time lol

Well, the seedling seems to be doing pretty good. Nothing exciting at all really. I'll post a picture in a few days when it's bigger. Need to drain out the water in it though because the ppms are steadily rising, I assume from whatever bit of salt build up was left on the hydroton. So I turned off the drip ring for now and am going to pour water over the hydroton every so often until I either start using nutes or whenever.

Also, I think everyone who has subbed this thread should add zmoorhs to their ignore list until the mods handle him. I have already done so.

Good news - glad to hear!

I've also reported him - I really don't understand how some people on these forums can be so ignorant and rude - I've seen a few really top-notch people actually leave RIU because of dis-respective posters like that - it's a shame. I don't see why it's so hard for some people to give their opinions without being so condescending... sorry zmoorhs, you're not welcome here, this is mr2's journal and is only for people who respect other members and are here to learn and enjoy growing.

Thanks for the help Dayzt, I got an admin to handle that douche. Thanks mellokitty!

Anyways, today I will call it day 3? I'm not gonna be so insane about the days this time around. Not really sure what's up with those first two leaves(I forgot what they are called) No big deal, not using nutes right now and will probably start end of next week. Will be using Flora Nova Bloom all the way through again.

Yeah, don't worry 'bout the cotyledons - the serrated leaves are comin in nice now... looks like she's a go!!! :leaf: Is this a feminized seed?

I've seen the cotyledons yellowing up like this when it takes em a bit longer to get rid of the shell. As Dayzt it's no biggie.

QUESTION!

Which bear is best? Also, is there anything you plan to do differently this time around, mr2? I know that I've def made a few mistakes with my PE that I won't be making the next time around, ha.

No, everything is gonna be the same. I may use Flora Micro as well. I just with this whole process was faster! That seedling is so small and boring!
