Newbie first dwc

Hi everybody

I'm about to start dwc for the first time, and wanted to find a mentor of sorts.
I prefer speaking since im partially dyslexic, discord-teamspeak-skype so on? can work with text tho
ive had help from reading this forum alot before, so im not a total rookie.

my gear atm
3 oxypots 19L
125w cfl veg
600w hps
120x120x200cm tent
ph perfect series fertilizer
mini green house
gib nxe ballast adjust.
water filter system
xtra black/white plastic
consumables like leca, rockwool and so on.

my plan was to tape off one side to make a small veg room 30x30-30x60 leaving 90x120+ for bloomroom
then later mby get a small tent for a mother/veg room and more pots if like the oxypots

troubles ive run into before in other grows and guess as to what happened
stagnant seedlings - not enough light - mby bad water source
stretched plants - bloomed them late and to little light for to many plants

havent grown in a few years and most of my experience with soil is forgotten or mby useless with dwc.

ill update this thread as i go along in the process(hopefully once a week) for feed back and hopefully bring some usefull information to the table aswell.

Sup, I'm new to hydro as well. I can tell you a few things others have told me that helped a lot.
So is your filter RO I assume it is, what's the ppm. Do you condition the water before use.
What are you using for ph control.
Ohh how are you germinating the seeds?
Also the use of ph perfect is ok but it doesn't address all issues with ph . Again not an expert on the hydro thing, but I can tell you from experience that your soil experience can make you doubt what you lol learn about hydro or at least it did for me.

Its pretty simple really.

Keep out light from your res, try to keep the temps under 70f....there are work arounds and some people have no problems with higher temps etc. But under 70 is just easier

Keep junk out of your res. No snake oil concoctions, weeklyish changeouts on res, use a preferably use a dry nutrient salt blend with a good ratio.

Err to the lower side of ppm, and higher side of dissolved oxygen

and last but not least, if someone else gives you different advice and yields more than me, listen to them

Hey jiji, can share a little info on dry nutes, like do you have a fav line or combination of , or do you mix your own from dif bags or stuff . If u have time after all that, how do prepare that for application. Thanks

And yes why dry nutes?

I read that I could cut costs down but I don't have enough info to decide if will work for me. I'm still trying to learn as much as I can before jumping into it. I'm using Fox farm and Bush Dr now and I've got enough for 2/3 more grows , so really I'm in the research stage, just trying to figure out what to use and if it is available locally. My hydro shop is 2/3 hours one way, not really convenient and damn sure not cheap lol. Idk what will I do in the end, but if you have advice, you know I respect you, and I will listen. I'm about to try hydro for the first time, and I know it might not work out for me, I can do soil inside and outside but I want the challenge of a new skill ( I feel like I'm in kendergarden lol , hope I don't have to wear that damn pointie hat again ) . Anyway have a great day.

I mix my own but you can also buy pre-mixed. My mix is pretty close to a general tomato recipe. Theres no perfect recipe or ppm for different all strains, so a tomato recipe is a really good starting place.

For RDWC I would pre-mix them dry, then dump the dry mix in the epicenter with recirculating pumps running that mixed it for me. Then guestimate the ph up and dump it in, and carry on with other duties. Then in 30 minutes to an hour check the ph and ppm.

Thanks and will do next time I'm in a store .

Read many of your threads jiji and have deemed lots of info, thanks! I'm just not sure I would recommend a dry mix over a liquid for a newb, if we are talking a general dry mix like jacks (never tried btw) then sure but if your referring to a mix your own then perhaps that could wait till after the first couple of grows, just a thought. I would think there is enough to worry about and that just adds another level of difficulty . It's still fresh in my mind that I was waiting for my plants to die every day on my first hydro run. I may be biased to premixed as I get it out the door of the plant that mixes for cheap and it's great. I can purchase enough for 4-6 runs for $25 with 6 plants running, and while that's pricier then a dry mix I still know exactly what's in it. Again my situation may be different than most.

I agree , that's why I'm going to take a year to research . It's not something I'm ready for yet lol.

a year? that's dedication! lol
try out GH maxibloom if you want to try a simple and cheap dry nute. 7 grams/gallon.

the only thing i didn't like about dry is it was harder for me to hit a target EC. let's say 7 g was EC1.5 but i wanted EC1.2. is it 6 grams, 6.25 grams, 6.5 g etc.?

Thanks, I know my hydro shop carriers that one. I need to use all this other stuff I already have first, but I've looked at the Maxibloom and it's like 17$ a bag, witch is cheaper than one bottle of Fox farm and I've got 6/7 of those to deal with.

I've been smoking for almost 4 decades so I'm definitely dedicated lol. I only grow for personal never sell but l gift to friends

i know what you mean. i usually feed my lawn with all my expired/unwanted nutes nowadays.

Fruit trees for me lol.
