New York Needs Some Help.

Dear MPP Supporter :
Gov. David Paterson is standing in the way of including medical marijuana in the New York budget, which would kill patients' chance at relief. With session almost over, there is virtually no chance the medical marijuana bill will pass unless it's in the budget. The governor has previously said he supports allowing medical marijuana and we need you to act now to convince him to reverse course.
Please call Gov. Paterson TODAY to ask him not to stand in the way of relief.
Then, please donate so that we can generate massive constituent pressure in these final days in the session. We need to raise $4,600 today so we pay $4,000 to generate 500 constituent calls through a call center and pay $600 for patients' transportation to a press conference.
The Senate passed a resolution in March calling for medical marijuana to be included in the budget, and the Assembly has long been supportive — passing medical marijuana bills in 2007 and 2008. But on Friday Gov. Paterson said he doesn't want medical marijuana included in the budget. Since New York's medical marijuana bill was first introduced in 1997, 13 states have had laws enacted — including Vermont and New Jersey. The budget is a natural place for the bill because it would raise tens of millions of dollars for the cash-strapped state through modest excise taxes and licensing fees.
Make sure this compassionate bill does not slip away. Let Gov. Paterson know that the time to act is now and that the issue must be included in the budget. Please also urge other New Yorkers to follow suit. Forward this message, post the link to your social networking sites, and otherwise spread the word. We cannot let another year go by with patients criminalized for treating their illnesses.

yeah, the NY situation kind of sucks, uphill all the way
not sure what is up with Paterson, haven't been able to find any corroboration of this in other news
it's the budget process that is fubar, it's all over the place
there has been a bit of hopeful news a little while after this post, there was some activity in the state legislature
there is still talk there will be no budget passed with Paterson, that it won't happen until after the November election

screw it by november cali will legalize for recreational use...ny is so far behind the curve

i have been seeing some activity on the local albany news, some high profile types plugging for MMJ
Montel Williams was in town to lobby at the assembly
the next governor looks like Andrew Cuomo, no good sense of what his stand is
but if cali does legalize, could change the dynamic
i'm reaching here, but what the hell

I don't know but I know the local NORML chapter in bing is trying to get together so if your nearby you should join their mailing list...mind as well get out there and do something to help progress forward

i do just that, phone calls here, some donated money there
i'm kind of remote from the populated areas, so i try to educate as many as i can in my local area
i've turned a few over the years, never lose hope, it's coming!
