new to cloning.... thus.... stupid question #1

recently bought a small jar of clonex... Sannie provided me with a flat of spongepots...
long story short, last time I did a little manicuring I decided to attempt a few clones. It's been about 8-9 days and they aren't dead....lol. the small amount of water I put in the tray is absorbed every day...so I'm guessing that maybe.... just maybe.... I have roots???

I'd say keep providing water then. The cuts still look good, no wilt? What color are the leaves? When roots are about to start you will get some leaf turning yellow and brown. Just keep at it

very slight wilt.... but color is fine... I have them in a makeshift humidity chamber with minimal light.... but DEF not dying.... so they must be drinking.... I hope?

Probably. I took time off from growing and having to remember how I got stuff to work the last time and how long it took. I suggest detailed notes as you go for next time

Should be rooted in 2 weeks. So, a little longer.

Im usually crazy with journals and notes, etc.... but this was very spur of the moment so I never even thought about it. In the back of my mind I just figured they'd die and I'd forget about cloning again for a while...lol~
But... we're definitely in the 10 day range now and they are FAR from dead... so I'm thinking I may have snuck in a beginners luck clone.... Barney's LSD btw.... beautiful plant... which I why I was inclined to give it a shot

Never hurts to try. I'd hate to flower a plant, love it and find out it's an uncommon pheno and have to grow a lot more to get a similar one. Much easier just to clone. If it comes out great you can repeatedly grow it. If it is subpar then those it. Clones need little light and little nutes to make a mother so nothing much wasted.

what is the medium underneath the dish ..... there's a few tips and tricks you can use for your first time ....especially if you don't have a heating mat or cloning chamber .... cloning on top of a fridge for a heat source underneath is a great idea ....also in your case ...with only a few clones .... if you have a gas stove with pilots ..they can be placed atop the stove with the overhead stove light on ... a few saucers with your clones on them ... covered by a plastic cup and an overhead lighting has had 100 percent rate practically with me... i also use jiffy pellets ... seem to work best for cloning???

Thats just a sterlite tub with wet perlite to create humidity. Heat doesnt seem to be a problem as I have it outside my veg tent and it is getting a decent amount of residual heat coming from inside. Brief update.... I saw what appears to be a "taproot"..... much thicker than I expected to see.... so probably good news ty for the great response!!!!

hmm ...never heard of the perlite trick, interesting. just to clarify when i was explaining about a heat source .... i was more or less referring to something to give off ambient heat at the bottoms of your tray much like a heating mat, which in turn is where you want any source of heat to be when propagating. I've noticed (and i believe is fact?) the warmer (not hot) your ground surface is ...the quicker to root...... well this may not be true in all cases. But in mine ... clones i propagated on the stove top under a cfl as my light source over top and the ambient heat from the pilot warmed surface gave me roots in days.
ALSO ... you're having success so i don't want to throw you off .... but it helps if you trim down some of those fan leaves a bit ... it'll reduce chance of infection, transpiration may be easier, and it will give the clone a better focus on rooting rather than keeping excess foliage alive. next time ... just trim a bit of the tips on your clone ... you may experience quicker rooting.
but yeah yeah brotha ... that fat ass tap root poking out that you're seeing .... that's your clone thriving ma man! in the next few days expect to see an explosion of growth in the rootzone as long as conditions are optimal.

some strains just take a while. patience is key. ive had roots in little as 5 days and some strains took 2 weeks, using the same propogation methods. looks like your on the right track though. best of luck!

The only real reason Ive found to trim fan leaves is to make more space if youre doing a lot. Cutting the fan leaves actually increases the risk for infection,not decrease. Youre putting an open wound into a warm humid environment.

look at cube and visually find roots...then u are rooting...usually 5-10 days for me...keep damp and in tent or lots of misting...after 2 wks should be ready to rocket..arrid now careful to]not overfeed or overwater...have fun!

Here's what I do. I cut, then carefully skinaway the outer layer all around the entire stem between the bottom two node i plan to place under the surface, or atleast 1/2 inch long, then i cut the stem down the center to pretty much make it a fork. then i dip in the clonex and put them in rapid rooters.

This picture was taken 2 mins ago. it was 1 week yesterday since i cut them, and as you can see from the one i am lifting by the plant itself, the roots are starting to peak through. I use simple individual containers for each one, and i trying to keep about 1/8" of water, just a little, in the bottom. I DO NOT mist at all. when you "mist" the clones, the leaves absorbs the water directly. So the plant senses it has no need to accelerate root growth. I mean, why would it? it's leaves are getting what they needs directly from when you mist your clones. So don't mist your clones, and you will encourage them to spout roots faster, because that will be the only way for them to get water. Like the name implies, it's a "weed" it will grow. And i do not use a clone dome, I find it increase my temp far to high. so i have them just directly under a T5, about 4-5 inches away. You can see the clones look healthy, all the leaves are still green, only just the other day did some of the tips start turning yellow. I've had a 100% success rate. It will still be a day or two before i place these in soil, I want to let more of the roots pop out.

Oh and don't let the names on the containers fool you, these are Mango Kush.

are they like rapid rooters? if so youll see roots popping out the sides and bottom soon enough, even with out roots they will still absorb the water be patient wait till you see roots before planting.

When you mist your clones, the leaves get the water directly. what you want to do, is encourage root growth. Don't mist your clone, and you will get roots faster and increase the chances your clone will survive. The clones become weaker the longer they take to form a root system. If the clone is in poor health by the time it finally spouts enough roots for you to transplant, it could take a week or two, before the plant starts the vegetative cycle, before you'll actually start seeing any noticeable growth.

I find that if you mix a little clonex solution, (not gel) in the water under the root cubes it roots extremely fast for me. less than a week

You can clone very late into flower.
This Double bubble was cut at week 8 of flower and took a bit more than 3 weeks to root and almost a month and a half total to commence veg - but it is possible given the proper conditions.
