New to AG and growing...

i have a few seeds i germinated in a papertowel for a week almost inside the AG..i plugged it up sunday night for the first time..My AG came with the herbal kit,instead of getting new pods i just removed the seeds in the ones that came with it and placed mines inside them..will that be a problem?

That's exactly the way I did it, it worked like a charm!! The germinated seeds loooove the Aerogarden, they'll be taking off in no time!

damn thats good to hear, i was thinking that i had done something wrong lol..What model AG you have and what kind of results are you seeing? Do you have yours set for tomatoes as well?

I've got the Aerogarden Classic supplemented with a 100W Daylight CFL at 5500K, and I've got 7 seedlings growing. In just about 4 days, they've made incredible progress. Two of them are over two inches, 3 are about 1.5 inches, one is just sprouting, and the other is still releasing the taproot. The five tallest are all showing their water leaves, which are dark green, ridged and healthy. I've got it on the tomato setting which seems to work well, and yesterday, I added an airstone.

After reading more threads, I think I might have too many plants growing for such a small reservoir. On the other hand, you've got to figure some males will arise that will have to be removed later on, so you might want to overshoot the mark a little bit. Which model are you using?

when you sex them you'll be able to cut out the males and then you'll have the room ,, Ive done 4 plants in a AG .. It was tough they were fighting for the light .. 2-3 max i would say

I've been searching the threads for the answer to this one, but I haven't seen a definitive answer--how can you safely remove the males when the roots are going to be tangled with other plants? If you chop the males down, how do you prevent the female roots from being contaminated by dead male roots?

What i did was chopped the plant at the lowest point poss.. then I covered the whole net thing with black duct tape ,, i left the roots in the aerogarden and harvested when the females were done,, after harvest ,I checked the root systems and the plants that I cut ,, the roots were still alive and seemed to have no neg effects ..

Ah, that's excellent to hear, now I don't have to worry so much about males What net thing are you referring to?

The plastic net that you put into the holes in the aerogarden, where the sponges go ..

most fixtures, at least what I know of, have the regular two wire electrical set up with a grounding metal wire. These fixtures are usually installed into the wall without an actual plug to plug them in but instead they just have wires. So...you have to by the individual plug and be a little bit of an electrician. Its not hard to do at all. I bought a grounding plug....which is in the same section as the light fixture. I spliced the wires of the fixture and installed them in to the plug along with the grounding wire.

I also had to figure out how to get all my lights on the same timer. In the same section, at walmart, as the fixture and grounding plug, I found individual plugs with 3 outlets on it allowing me to plug all my lights in one timer. Then I found an individual plug with outlet that would accomodate the grounding plug (since it has three prongs). So now all my lights are hooked up to one timer.

hey happy how long did you germ your seeds before putting them in the AG? you said yours grew that tall after 4 days?

im using the pro 100.. I germed my seeds until they we're cracked and threw them in the AG. that was sunday night..How long do you think it will be before they sprout?

oh and another thing how do you flush the reservoir?

im not sure how to flush, you can kind instructions off there web site, they should sprout soon

yeah i think i need to flush i added 2 nutes the first day...hope it doesnt harm much

i just flushed it.. basically poured out all the water and refilled it.

You've got nothing to worry about, I did the exact same thing with the nutrients, and after a flush, everything is still roaring along!

yo ismoked....I germed my seeds in a 50 mL jar with warm water and 1 drop of superthrive. I then put the jar on top of my computer tower for the warmth. they cracked in 12 hours but i left them in there for a day and a half. I transferred them to the AG pods with taproot pointed down in a sponge that was cut in half vertically so the tap root can work its way down easier. I used one tab of the AG starter nutes which seems to be just fine. I used 2 last time and that was also fine. But, I feel less is better. I'll be using different nutes besides the AG ones later. I also placed the seed as close to the top of the sponge as possible. I detached the hood and have the AG lights 3-4 inches above the sprout. I had a little bit of stretching goin on, so I gently moved the sprout down into the pod a little more (by removing the pod first). It's easier to do this with the sponge cut in half. This, from what i hear, will help for stability in the long run. just be careful with the roots. Its been 7 days and here they are....
