Oh! My mistake, I misread that. Well, I'm getting the 80CRI diodes from what the packaging says. I can live with that for $30 a board.
you get less lumens as CRI and spectrum increases. so 2700k 80CRI will have more lumens/watt than 2700k 90CRI, but i guess the quality of the light is better? so it's a trade off really.

agreed. and from my perspective, growing for personal use and pollen chucking, I suspect I will be happy with the 80cri 3000k-4000k mixed boards.

yes i'm flowering under all 80CRI 4000k and am very happy with my results so far... big dense ass nugs and frosty too! had very little stretch during flip so that could be good or bad depending on preference i guess. maybe the results would be a little better with different diodes but i'm not complaining.

Been emailing The Guy and, indeed, he said that he could do 90 CRI but it would have to be S3 bin.

It does? It usually it keeps going up as spectrum goes up with other led. But of course more lumens doesn't necessarily mean more of what the plants can use, it usually means less when dealing with higher spectrums.

I want to use LM302B diodes - much more powerful than LM561C - or also LM301A. or maybe some of their high power diodes instead of mid power. i guess it's all about cost and efficiency though. i don't understand the logistics of PCB circuit construction and stuff. on paper they look a lot more powerful though.

They're more powerful but they are much bigger. Kinda like comparing Vero 18 and Vero 29's for example. There is very little difference in terms of efficiency.

Actually you lose a lot of efficiency moving up to the 302B. Their efficiency is ~140 L/W, while the 301B is ~220 L/W

what do you mean bigger? they are 3mm X 3mm, smaller than lm561c (5.6mm x 3mm), and the high power diodes are 3.5mm x 3.5mm. i also don't really care about efficiency i just want most overall power. it's still more lumens total if a little less efficient. i want these lamps to last 2 years most because i'm sure i'll be upgrading after 2 years anyways with how fast LED tech is moving, then it'll become a veg light or something

@CobKits do you think a cheap lux meter, like the ones built in to samsung phones, is good enough to give an approximation when using white light LEDs? just until such time a PAR meter can be afforded...

What's the lead time on these boards? Does he have them in stock ready to go, or are they made on an order-by-order basis?

There was a girl who started another thread here talking about these, so I'm assuming common CRI/K boards are readily available while others are special order?

Is "The Guy" you're dealing with Jeff?

"Jeff" is the one that won't sell 288 or 304 boards due to NDA agreement with another customer but he does sell 336 peice boards for 35/ea. Build to order for most sellers on alibaba but it's only 3-7 days..
I'm interested in seeing how these work. Who will test them?

You're right, I was high and looking at a completely different diode. At least the efficiency is very similar, not that it matters much to you or me.

301A and 302B are 2years behind 301B and produce only 65% of the light. Do you really want to invest in old tech? Would you buy old CXA COB's when you can get CXB's? I think not!

Efficiency does not interest you, but better efficiency is what makes new LED's better. Would you rather get 14.000lm from 100w or rather 22.000lm from the same 100w? 200w of 301B(44.000lm) can do the same like 300w of 301A(42.000lm)!

And the old ones are probably not even cheaper as the newest! Do you still want to use old tech?

i've already asked "The Guy" though and those diodes are not available in china - would need to purchase elsewhere and have them placed yourself or ship em to china and hope they don't swap em for something cheaper

A 301A comes at 350mA even to only 105-122lm/w, because that would be the upper limit.
Remember, the harder you drive LED's, the worse their efficiency will be.
If you rather want less but brighter diodes you need to use 1-5w diodes like XP-G3, Osram Oslon or Samsungs 5w diodes.

The advantage of mid-power diodes is that they are small and generate only 0.2w heat maximum. This makes their thermal management so easy and is the reason why they are so good.

Hence my curiosity about those big 336 diode boards. If they're legit they look like something I'd be interested in.

You need to calculate their lm/w performance correctly. I highly recommend to try Samsung LED calculator for comparisions. No need to calculate anything, simply choose an LED from the list, choose spectrum, CRI, flux and voltage bins...
