New pollen chucker

This makes sense. Man it's annoying when u are on a specific thread and someone comes in to talk shit.thx for getting back. U have any favorites?
What I want in a strain may not be what others want. Some are looking for different things and there is nothing wrong with that. I myself am not chasing the highest THC strain or what's popular. In fact THC is only one factor I look at. Taste and effect are other factors I look at along with others. To me all of these latest high THC strains are mostly the same. They don't have the character of a South American sativa or an Indica from the mountains of Afghanistan or Pakistan. Modern hybrids are boring to me. I don't buy at the dispensaries but I know people that do. They stop by with their little jars or containers of stuff with names like Banana Pudding, Death Star, Frosted Cherry Cookies, etc... and all they seem to want to do is show me the THC content that's printed on the label. When I tell them I don't care they stand there in shock. Some of these dispensaries have over 150 different strains and most of them taste the same. What usually happens is we end up smoking what I grew and the topic goes to "That's some damn nice tasting weed, wanna trade some?". I always say no and give them a nugget to take home for free.

With that being said I really like what ACE Seeds has to offer. I'd much rather grow a Kashmir Baramulla Valley from ACE than the latest Space Gorilla Cookies from whoever. I'd rather harvest a Malawi, Ethiopian, Panama, etc... Than a Purple Berry Sour Skittles. But like I said that's just me and I really don't care what others grow. I do know one thing however, I'll never pay the outrageous prices that some US seed banks are charging. People paying $20, $30, even $100 or more a seed. I also like Cannabiogen, The Real Seed Company, and yes Sensi, Dutch Passion, etc... and many of the other older European breeders that are constantly being disparaged by those here in the States. But I've acquired so many seeds over the past few years that I might never buy anything else again. Well except for another order of landraces from the Real Seed Company. Other than that I'll just grow what I have, make more seeds of the strains, and keep making my own crosses. Many of which are as good or better as strains people are paying $30 a seed for.

Regardless, take what other say about other companies with a grain of salt. Many have an interest in the industry and are just disparaging competitors. It's sometimes hard to discern fact from intentional fiction when discussing any product related to the cannabis industry. It's rife with misinformation, false claims, slick marketing, and slimy sales tactics. I don't let that stuff get to me. I don't buy into the "hype". I do my own thing and advise others to do the same. I must be getting old because typing out this post has left me winded. :bigjoint:

I feel like what's the point of stabilizing? Is that wrong of me ? Like unless I am selling them I'm not interested in that.
If I want consistent results,I'd run clones..
Nothing wrong with being able to pick from multiple cultivars of a chuck, nothing at all.

Stable sexual orientation
Stable colors
Stable terps
Stable high/stone

Focusing on them & let the rest fall into place.

Plenty of winners to choose from ty for your response

Also should I have kept the original male and or the pollen from him? I still have some but it's been a year and its prob not viable?
Proper breeding takes years of crossing and backcrossing...and of course requires the parent plants if you hope to produce an IBL.

But...if you get a killer plant...then you have a clone-only Momma and you will have the only one! (till you share it)

Talk about a win win. Basically I am making f1s with random strains I think I will like or possibly be unique in more than one attribute. Then I'm pheno hunting in prob ten to fifteen seeds. It's fun and not too overwhelming. Ty for your response

Ok I'm jumping in here, this seems like the right place for the level I'm at. Not a total hijack, this will be realavent.

I made a cross (chuck) a couple years back, with a clone La Chocolate female, and the pollen from a California Orange I had grown from seed, that reversed on me due to neglect and inexperience! The opportunity came up, so I seized it, and I succeeded with my first(only) pollen chuck.

Now I still have a lot of these seeds, I've grown a bunch, they are totally worth growing. Vigorous, not much variation.... Lots of misfires, but not all the seeds fully matured, and we're poorly stored, until rectified.
Now, for the beginer inquiries.

Evidently, these two strains had desirable combining ability?
Would this still be referred as an F1?
I still grow that La Chocolate cut, if I reverse that, and chuck it to the cross, is that a backcross then?
Do these labels apply the same when using Femmy pollen?

F-1 just means it's the first generation of a cross. Not sure if the term technically refers to two IBLs. But dude...that's the beauty of pollen chucking. You can call it whatever you want.

Far as your backcross...aren't you then injecting two different herm prone characteristics? Seems that way to me. Happy banana plucking.

Not really intending on doing so, just an effort to understand the nomenclature!
OK...that's cool. My point was that if you did what you suggest...I believe you would be creating a herm prone strain.

When they make a cross...and forget about fems...they always save the parents for backcrossing to strengthen the line. I'm no expert...just a pollen chucker myself.
Good luck and lots of good articles out there.
