Thanks for the link. I do like a good science based documentary. But these days I watch very little TV at all. Doctor Who, FSU Basketball and F1 Racing is the short list. {also record all the Austin City Limits, but am a good year behind on watching them}

I was born in 1961, way out in the sticks. We had four channels growing up. ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS. I didn't get cable until I was nearly 30, so I watched a lot of PBS. And when I used to watch the news, the News Hour was my choice. Giving up watching the news 9 years ago was the best move I have made in a long time. A lot less stress. {I do peak once in a while, just to see the crazy shit 45 has done}

It is tough seeing everyone so gleeful to get rid of learned folks. I was waiting to get my Camry serviced just before the election, and a lady started talking Trump. Her said she didn't like what the pro's had done, so she was willing to give him a chance. So I ask her why she had brought her car to the Toyota place to get it serviced instead of letting someone with no experience do it. She said, that is different. You need to know what you are doing to change oil.

this explains the depth of thinking of trump supporters :cry:

Saw it a couple years ago. 'Last Human Standing' is an interesting one as well. I would like to see a dedicated documentary about Homo Florensiensis; if you know of one please let me know
If you are a documentary nerd like me you will love this site.

I am doing the quantum physics docu's lately, mind-blowing; 'quantum activist' is cray cray
check out 'what the bleep? down the rabbit hole' thats a super mind screwing weird one.

Too bad Trump is trying to kill PBS eh, I grew up on PBS, CBC and BBC documentaries and nature shows with the top shows throughout my many decades being Nova, Nature, The Nature of Things and Horizon. Breaks my heart to see America attack "learning". #wtf
Intelligent citizens are a threat to the oligarchs.

I'll be playing an interesting new board game this weekend; 'Dystopia'. It's a worker placement game. If your workers get too intelligent, they quit!

Yeah, I'm a nerd. A weed nerd, a documentary nerd, a gaming nerd, a grow nerd...

agreed wholly , thats sort of the problem with a binary political system though, it's going to take the democratic party 8 years just to fix everything and by that time people will be pissed off at the dems and ready to put the reps back in office. And its like every time that pendulum swings it swings farther to the right or left; getting more insane each time on both sides. As an outsider I dont have any skin in the game really, but this shit is scary to watch. Even from way up here.
It's been swinging hard right for my entire adult lifetime. Mr Obama is himself on record as saying he governed to the right of Ronald Reagan, and still couldn't get the Republicans to work with him.

We haven't had anyone on the 'Left' in office in over half a century. I think that's far too long.

i can't believe one of these super rich assholes isn't seizing the public opinion opportunity to make a huge donation to pbs, enough for them to run a year or two....people would love them, it would be a hell of a tax write off.....and it might encourage other wealthy people to join in, "philanthropy can be fun"....
That's a pretty sad way to run a country, even if I agree with making sure PBS is well funded.

I am not into it, but a friend (originally from Romania) is big into the free to air satellite thing. He has a multi-dish switch and some customized open source dvr thing and he gets a tonne of channels, of course many are in different languages. And you have to hang multiple dishes. Apparently most satellite transmissions are unencrypted and its just a matter of finding the right sats. That was a few years ago, dunno if its still a thing or not. I think he was doing it mostly for the European football (aka soccer).
You can even get descramblers for most of the rest of the channels if you hunt for them.

Righteous! Sounds like a lot of lonely time in front of a humming box though.

90% of the time you're in voice chat with guild members, and mmos have a global chat system, there's always people to talk to...although many of them are trolls and idiots, you just learn to identify them and use them for entertainment

after a while you'll get on a raiding team, if its a good team, you always make a few friends from raiding. if its a bad team, you can make ingame enemies forever...

Aha! When people in the same room are trolls and idiots, you can throw things at them!

See? It is better!

I once ran a study on conditioned responses. There is a little cut off road that I'm on for about a mile and a half when I'm going to or from work. For one month I waved at every car on that stretch of road and recorded the number of wave backs I got. Then for two months I didn't wave, just recorded the number of waves I got.

My findings are it takes about two weeks for folks to start and stop waving. Not sure what good it did, but it kept me busy for a while.

i wave at people that wave at me, usually. if i'm having a bad day they might get a nod, if i'm having a real bad day they might get a cold stare....by the time i'd be flipping them off i'm back inside sedating myself. just politeness to me, up to a point. if the same guy drives by 6 times, he ain't gettin 6 waves, not even on a good day

I'm one of those guys who sees the cars, but not the drivers when on the highway. I wave at everyone on my two roads, {I live on a crossroads} and almost no one anywhere else.
