Neowls Newbie Grow - Seedsman Nemesis Indoors

Hi all, just thought I'd start up a journal.

I planted two baggy seeds on Sunday night, after germinating them. I'm starting from today's progress and will post all the way through the journey.

Day 3:

So far, only one of the seeds has reared its head

Okay, so now we're on Friday Night; Day 5 and I have had some progress:

This was on the afternoon of Day 3.
Evening of Day 4.
Evening of Day 5
Night Time Day 5; I transplanted it into a bigger tub.

what lights you using?

At the moment, It's getting natural light from sitting on my windowsill, and the light from my bedroom, just a 75w energy saver stick bulb. Buying tools for a growbox tomorrow, just something simple as I'm not looking for this plant to gain much height while it's vegging.

It's going to stretch looking for light to grow on. Is that a metal container you planted the seedling into? It's hard to tell from the pic..

first off....need to get them out of those jars...you have to have drainage or it will turn into root rot fast.and gonna need much more light then that....try for at least 250 watts min per plant.not going to get much light from the window..i bet it gets maybe 4-5 hours of light a day...right now they need at least 18 hours of light a day...some start and finish at 12/12 cycle...but i dont think they grow as fast that way.but the cheapest way without all the heat is cfl's...everyone will tell you get hps or hid...but thats if you want to start tossing anywhere from 300 to 1,000 to get going..for a REAL setup that is.cfl's are cheap,not a drain on the power bill,and no where near as hot as other lamps

Okay, So the first one I tried with died unfortunately. Thanks to those who gave advice.

I germinated another two about a week and a half ago, and another yesterday. As you can see, they're in actual pots this time! They currently have a small 60w Vivarium lamp on them.

sucks about the first ones...but these are headed down the same road.they are not getting close to enough light..thats why they are stretching.....gonna need a hella lot more light before they start falling over.much better job on the pots this time...and might want to add some perlite to your soil so it drains better.

Yeah, they have been stretching as the fitting for the bulb didn't come through until earlier this week, they were relying on the sun like the last one bless 'em.
Now they're in the closed environment with the new lamp I hope they'll strengthen up somewhat.

if you got a fan blowing on them where its making them move a lil bit that would help.as in nature...when wind hits the stem it gets stronger to deal with the airflow..thats if it dont blow them over

I go have a PC fan to hand, which I could wire up to an unused mobile phone charger, would that make much of a difference? Or were you think more on the lines of a small oscillating fan?

if you hang it right next to it that should work for now

Okay, the others died too

Now however, I have a single feminized seed of Nemesis by Seedsman that sprouted in the soil as of tonight. The cotelydons have begun opening up, and there appears to be the start of true leaf growth there too. The root/stem seems to look a lot healthier than that of my previous attempts (darker colour and thicker) from what I can see (not much given the space between the cotelydons and the soil).

I have swapped the 60w vivarium lamp for a 150w HPS one (prior to germinating and planting this baby of course), set to 16/8 and I have added a PC fan (wired it to a USB extension cable, that plugs into a mains adapter from an old phone) to the grow area, so the baby has some airflow.

All is looking good for now. Will be taking pics tomorrow, given sufficient progress.

Right now the light is about 10" from soil level, is that about right for a newborn seedling?

Obviously I'll change the distance through the grow, so I don't harm the plant.

i hope that a single cpu fan can help the heat thats gonna be put out by the hps....keep an eye on your temps.heat can be one of the worst things for your plant...my last 2 suffered a couple days of 95+ temps....stunted the hell outta them.but was auto flowers that stay small anyways.but the heat really hurt my yeild in the long run

if you are using a 150 hps, 10" is ok I guess. Keep a digital thermo near the plant and keep an eye on it.

I'll be changing the PC fan to a small deskfan this week, and using the PC fan as an exhaust fan. I haven't got a digital thermo at the moment, but I will be investing really soon. Money has been really tight of late, so this grow has been the basic of basic. I'm calling it a real learning curve.

walmart has a decent one for $6.97...i use one..temps and humidity seem to register right..if its a sealed hps hood...might want to think of getting a dryer vent and using the cpu fan with it..take the heat right out of the area
