I would do everything in my power to make them uncomfortable. But stay legal! Make it so they will want to move. LOL I have done this in the past with great results. Its even better if you can get him to actually hit you in front of a third party. lol I know I'm bad but I dont get mad....i smoke a joint and think of ways to get even... but not in trouble.....Goood luck to you! I hate asshole neighbors.....

Artificial Emotion I'd like to hear more about the people - age, size, physical condition, number and type of visitors, children, etc - but first I'd like to make a radical suggestion - make friends with them. Clean the garbage yourself and padlock the door so it doesn't happen again. Think of something nice you can do for them that they'll eventually figure out you did - maybe stop kicking their car doors or something.
There are always rotten people around, if you can find a way to coexist with them life will be easier.

I understand that you are sometimes mentally ill and stress is no good for you but you can't stop people from talking. If they don't do it when you can hear they'll just do it when you can't hear instead. You need to grow a thicker skin.
However, that said, do you have a music system with big speakers? My upstairs neighbour used to be a dick. Treat his kid like shit, hit his woman, act hard. I would blast my music every time he walked into his flat. Rock music too. Used to drive him nuts.
Also, maybe you should stop smoking weed. In my experience it's no good for people with mental illnesses. The paranoia just seems to add to the stress.

Two suggestions: Have a beer with them. Who doesnt love beer. Hopefully you live somewhere where you can just crack one out front of where you live and stand and talk for a few minutes.
And if there is no remedy to the guy being a dick. Buy a taser and piss them off enough to were he is going to come knock on your door. When he does open it, step back and let him walk in and taze the shit out of him. File a police report prior to this about what you heard, and then you could say he came to your house and attacked you. He might go to jail.
