hey ppl

ok Co2 and the benefits it gives me is a must .........i been running a stil and using the mash to provided the Co2 to my tent (at this point i do not need anymore shine) so i need a Co2 system

1 burners are out ........the heat they produce is going to be a bitch to control in my area in summer time yes i know about the water control system just to much for my area

so this leaves me with the choice of tanks ..........so i am asking for imput on this
1 what tank size should i go for 20lbs or 50lbs
2 should i buy the tank out right or rent from place that fills it
3 my area is a 5x5x6 dr150 tent ......intake is 240cfms exhaust is about 260 280

so give me some imput please

Might not be worth it.

If you're getting fresh air to the plants then you're also getting plenty of co2. To run co2 properly you need to have a well-sealed tent (which most of them aren't) and you need to cycle your air instead of run your fan constantly. What I mean is that if you have an air-cooled hood you'll need a fan for that and the hood intake would come from outside the tent. Then you would have another inline fan running on a cycle to let the plants absorb the co2 for 10 or 15 minutes then have the fan suck that spent air out and replace it with fresh air. co2 systems are expensive to do correctly. Not just with the tank and regulator, but with the extra fan you need.

I've gone back and forth about whether I want to do co2 and if you research the forums on this you'll see that there's a proper effective way to to this and everything else is pretty much useless.

I'm not an expert on co2, but I've read enough to know that it's not necessarily worth the cost unless you are willing to do it correctly.

That's just my opinion.

For such a small tent.. I would try one of those co2 bags.. I personally have never used the bags but I have heard rave reviews from people using them in small grows.. Cost is about half of running a tank

i'd stay away from mixes/bags. jsb, you have a fan to suck air out of the tent?? please explain. op, buy yourself some 20 lb tanks. do some reading, imo, well worth the investment, but some disagree...

i seen the growth in flowering stage ....the cost is more then justified
....indoor is only maybe 300ppm of co2 i want to get to 1100 or 1500 .....i was using 2 mash buckets for about 5 days the smell the mash makes is pure Co2 the only time i smelled it out of the tent was when i opened the flap (secret jardin dr150 ) 2nd best maker on the market be hide gorilla

Co2 is a heavy gas compared to Oxygen it pools .........so with me adding in the air with the powered intake it will move it around but it should keep the CO2 lvls high like i want until it gets near the top and sucked out

if the Co2 calculator is right if i set the release to 0.2 cubic feet a hour it should get my lvls to 1100ppm in there ....and the a 20 lb tank should last me more then a month
https://www.hydroponics.net/learn/co2_calculator.asp
i could run it on a simple timer 45 mins on a hour

i'd stay away from mixes/bags. jsb, you have a fan to suck air out of the tent?? please explain. op, buy yourself some 20 lb tanks. do some reading, imo, well worth the investment, but some disagree...
yes i am running a 400cfm carbon filter on a speed controller i have it just little higher then my intake so i maintain a negative pressure for smell control

yah no worries on the bags and stuff they are uncontrollable even more so then the mash buckets at least with those u can tell it is working and how much

what else do i need to explain just making sure i covered what u are missing out on

thanks for the imput guys

I didn't pump co2 for the longest time because of people on these forums saying what JSB has said about how you are exhausting all the co2 out of the room because of inline fans.

How about I tell you this. I got a co2 meter and my room read it was around 400 ppms. I then went out and purchased a burner and even with my inline fans running 24/7 AND my portable ac unit exhausting air out of the room, my 8 burner got my co2 ppms to almost 1500 in that 15 minute period and maintained a co2 level of about 1000 until it had to run again (I pump for 15 minutes every 2 hours for 12 hours straight).

Another thing, stay away from the co2 bags. Enormous waste of money. Never messed with the the tanks but I heard they are pretty efficient. Good luck on your grow bro.

as a noob i just used sugar water and active yeast, i change out a little water and add more sugar every week. is this a bad idea?
that is basically what a mash bucket is but in the end i have something drinkable ..........i currently have enough shine to get several dozen ppl drunk off their asses i got a 6.5 gallon carboy be hide me with about 4 and half gallons of 143proof white rum

see here is the trouble the amount of sugar u can use vs water vs the yeast ..........i have distiller's yeast that will go up to 23% ach before it dies off basically that is about 13 lbs of sugar to 5 gallons of water ...........this will only give me 5 days of Co2 then i would run it off get my 2 gallons of 140 proof .............the cost of the sugar and power is only 30 bucks 50 bucks if u count the ice to cool the worm i make 80 bucks a gallon on the shine to off set the cost ...but the market for shine has bottomed out with everyone and their mother making own so no demand for it unless i can do 20 gallons or more at a time .........and not worth extra attention it would make for me

so i need a tank

If you can go 50 lbs tank get it just because its less trips so less wasted time. Make sure you get a ppm controler setup. You will use this to keep the ppm around 1500 ppm when lights are on. If you get the controler and regulator thats the biggest part. If your bringing fresh air in you ll need a timer and damper setup. What you need is 2 fans an exhaust and a intake. Set a timer on each also a timer on your co2 tanks will help waste. Now I set like 4 exhanges during lights on 2 with lights off. I set it like this. Your timer turns the co2 setup off for 10 minutes. Now have your exhaust fan come on for about 5 minutes then it shuts off and damper closes. At that time your fresh air intake comes on bringing brand new air into the tent filling it with new air. It shuts off after about 5 minutes the damper closes the tent is sealed. Now your co2 timer comes on giving it power the control reads low co2 ppm and brings it back to 1500 ppm. This repeats 4 times during the lights on period of flower . Co2 in veg really isn't needed but wont hurt. this always air out air in co2 fill and held.

were u using a controller or just fuzzy logic/math

i know about Co2 i rem about the story from china the whole village died in one night due to a earthquake unsettling a huge gas bubble in a lake it flooded the country side and since the village was in a natural valley it pooled there and ended up killing everything

well i am doing autos so i can do 24/0 time

i was thinking of setting the system to let out the gas for 45 mins cut off for 15 and then go back on for 45 mins .....at a setting of 0.2 cubic feet .......make a halo system at the light lvl

if the math is right on the cal i posted it should give me what i want and last more then a month just on a 20lb tank
the 50 lb tank they will only rent to me at a cost of 30 bucks a month .....the 20 lbs they will rent/sell outright to me

I have never really tried to guess math set units. I figure what I need based off of size of area and length it takes to get co2 to levels of 1500 and then let the timers and controller maintain it. All I have to do is check the tank guage every so often to know how low I am getting. My 20 lb tanks will last in flower about month or so at $20 a refill. I have a few co2 tanks that are 20 lbs wish I could grab a 50 lb tank though.

jsb, you have a fan to suck air out of the tent??
Yes. I had one inline fan for my hood. The air intake came from outside and the exhaust was vented outside. This isolates the hood from the grow.

Then, I had another 6" fan just for the grow area that would suck air in from the bottom of the cabinet, run through a filter, and then exhaust outside. If I was running co2 what I would've ended up doing is putting this fan on an incremental timer so the plants have time to absorb the co2. Then when the fan comes back on it brings in fresh air to replace the spent air.

I had both fans on their own speed controllers. Doing this gave me great control over the environment based on the ambient temps.

On my new setup, which will be a 4x8x8 tent, I will only be using a single fan though.

This is what I meant by doing it correctly. If you guess this stuff you can easily go over 1500 ppm which I believe suffocates the plants. I know it's not good for them at least.

Many people grow w/o supplementing co2 and their cannabis comes out fine. I use co2 and I can see the difference. If you haven't seen the difference, then you probably have much more dialed in, than I have. When I started, I used the co2 bags, and they worked as well as my home brew beer. I use the beer brewer in my small mother/clone closet, and I have a 20lb tank for my tent.

Here is a better deal on a 50lb:

http://www.amazon.com/CO2-Tank-Aluminum-Cylinder-Valve/dp/B0085282UK/ref=sr_1_cc_1_m?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1423184842&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=50lb+co2+tank

Thirty dollars less, if you're counting shipping.
