need help plz reply! med store seed question!!

I bought about 30 seeds of mixed batch from my med store. I know northern lights and white widow is 2 of them. My main concern is, do med stores ONLY sell feminized seeds or are they mixed with male n female seeds? Any advice is appreciated!....do indicas grow taller than sativas or vice versa???? Thx!!

Sativas are taller, I'm not sure what you mean by med store, but if they are feminized it should say so or they should have told you. I'm thinking they are probably regular.

What does the package say?
It is to me a little odd that you don't know whether they are feminized or regular seeds.
You can always call or go back to them to ask cos no way you'll know if the seeds are male, female or feminized.

Put the seeds down. Take a step back. Go to a local bookstore and get a good book on cannabis cultivation and read that book cover to cover before you do anything else. Good books on the subject will discuss buying seeds, buying the right equipment, lighting, germinating seeds, plant cycles, harvesting, etc. etc.

Trust me, you are at the beginning of a large learning curve, and it sounds like you are stumbling right out of the gate in that you don't even know what kind of seeds you have.

You're just going to make things difficult for yourself if you don't get educated first before starting this journey. I've been growing for years and a relative just gave me ed rosenthals "growers handbook" as a gift. It's a good book and I wish I had got it when I first started out.

By the way, if you had 30 fem's they probably would have cost you around $300 and you would have said "why do these cost so much" and they would have said b/c they're fem's. Therefore my guess would be that they are regular seeds, meaning you will get about a 50/50 split between male and female plants.

This is the absolute best advice you are going to get.

In Colorado a dispensary (MMC) is only allowed to sell seeds produced in their grow (OPCL) and up to 30% from other MMC's OPCL's. That said I don't know any dispensaries that are making anything but mistake seeds so bet on them making bananas.

Thanks man! I really didn't buy them, my buddy gave me about 40 seeds when "Herbal Alternative," opened here in Cortez, Co. He is a medicinal grower so i'm pretty sure these seeds are worth a shot. I've done A LOT of research. Sucks the only time you will be able to tell if they are males is when its almost to late! Right now i'm germinating them 4 the towel method and another four in a cup of water! I'm trying to do everything correctly so i can eventually get to where i'm growing legal/medical cannabis here. Thanks for your advice!

Sounds like you're going to have 4 drowned seeds in no time. You don't germ in cups of water. It's actually best to germ in starter cubes inside a humidity dome with the use of a heat mat for warmth. The paper towel method will work but then you have to handle the seeds and they don't like that.

Even if you have done "a lot" of research I still think you should get the book I mentioned. Some of the info you are getting may not from the best sources. In other words it may be bad advice, which is common on the internet. The book I mentioned is the offical course book of oaksterdam university and I feel it is an excellent source for good info. I'm not trying to sound like a dick, but as I suspected you're already continuing to make rookie mistakes like "germing in cups of water."

I have seen videos and heard a lot of success stories by germing in cups of water, but i only had 4 and 4.
I've always heard of a 24 hour soak max so I watched one of the vidoes you are talking about where the guy soaks for 3 days. At the beginning of the video the guy says his seeds popped after a long soak but then he only got 3 out of 5 to "take" on that previous attempt. I'm thinking that most likely his seeds were soaked too long and drowned. I'm not real fond of this extended soak method at this juncture but I will look into it some more out of my own curiosity. I won't however change my germing methods however. I'm getting nearly 100% success rates using quality seeds with the starter cube/humidity dome/heat mat combo.

I'm caught in a blizzard so I've been doing some germ method research for the hell of it. As far as pre-soaking goes I thought you may find this interesting.

It's from mandela seeds:

(Soaking seeds in water/wet paper towels is a method which can be used for old seeds (3+ years) that are drying up and losing germination power; and for pure land race equatorial strains such as from Africa. Both factors do not apply to our seeds. Fresh seeds have a healthy embryo whose cells are filled with water. But excess water causes the cells to bloat, depletes oxygen and leads to the tissue rotting away before the seed embryo can germinate. Old seeds have lost water in the cell tissue, the embryo starts to shrivel, which is why germination rates drop the older the seeds are. Therefore, old seeds (ie. 3+ years) can soak up more water before adverse conditions cause them to rot. This is one of the main reasons why various seed stock reacts differently to pre-germination methods. Some growers make the mistake of soaking our seeds in water for up to 1-2 days because it may have worked in the past with other seeds. This does not mean, however, that this method can be used for all seeds. In fact, old stock or equatorial cannabis seeds should only be soaked in water for a few hours at the most. Always consult the web site of a seed bank for specific advice and instructions on how to germinate their seeds.

Placing healthy & fresh seeds in water/wet tissue can lead to the development of fungi or bacteria on the seed hull. Lack of oxygen and contaminating substances in the water/wet tissue promote fungal growth which can be transported to the substrate later on. Often the seed simply rots away if left for too long in a glass of water, or wrapped up in wet tissue.

Once the seed sprouts in a glass of water or paper tissue it already has the taproot growing out of the cracked seed hull. While transplanting the germinated seed it is very difficult, indeed impossible, to prevent damage to the delicate taproot. Many sprouted seedlings handled in this way show retarded development, or even simply fail to appear out of the substrate after transplantation. Handling seedlings this way can impair the health & vigour of the plant for the duration of it’s life cycle - especially if other disturbing factors occur during the early stages of growth.)
