Need help on making my mind up on lights.

I am building a grow room in a shed. It has 6' 6" to the ceiling, and the room is 10'x10'. I want two lights. I'm thinking 1000w HPS for flowering and a 600w for veg. I don't have to use the whole space I want a room that will optimize the light that I put it in. Two thousand watters and the climate control to keep the temp regulated scares me as far as energy consumption. Any ideas or any good reference points on the web for designing a room would be greatly appreciated. I'm brand new to the indoor realm.

If I were you and could afford it .... I would go with two 600 HPS lights. They don't get as hot so it will be easier to control heat and grow some dense nugs. I would also make a section to have as a veg area . You can learn to make clones and stagger your grow area so as to have a harvest every 4 to 5 weeks.

Are you refering to using both 600 w lights for the flowering? How big of a room will 2 600w HPS cover? I gather about a 5'x5' for every 600w. You know of any good sites or links to some rooms that are set up in this fashion? Thanks

I'm sure if you google 10x10 dual 600w hps in google you will get some results.

Either way, I say 10x10... I'd throw 4 600w in that room and light the whole thing up...

Here's a simple little calculator that will figure out what your operating costs will run. http://www.citytrf.net/costs_calculator.htm

You just need to know what you are paying for electricity. Look at your bill or call your utility company and determine what your are getting charged per kilowatt hour for electricity.

Start on the small side and upsize down the road if you see the need. I'd be really happy learning the ropes with a couple dimmable 1K watters in a 10 X 10 space, depending on your goals.

Hope this helps - AIM
