Need dwc help asap plz

alrite so i saw a picture speedy seedz posted in another thread of a mop bucket for a dwc which is really clever cos it allready comes with the net , i was just wondering tho how do u guys think i should go about sealing the rest of the top off from light and whatever else ?

and also do i have to use hydroton balls ? is there a substitute , maybe say just a sponge ?

if i were going to use that for a dwc setup, i would use a large rockwool cube(i thing the hyron would fall through the lage holes in the basket.i would seal the light leaks with a black trsh bag with a hole in the bottom to run the plant through. You could lift the bag up check your ph and put it back down when your done. I think you could build a tub setup cheaper than the mop bucket deal. good luck

But, I think you would be better off with a 5 gallon bucket(Black). :peace:

good idea , alrite ill just use a black plastic bag , and as for the hydroton balls ill just use rockwool instead and maybe tape over it so no light gets to it. the mop bucket i got is red and probs around 5-9 litres which i reckon is heaps for just the 1 plant
 
2hours later its up and going! and im just waiting on the glue to dry around the tubing against the bucket , and my only plant i have atm to spare is allready 10days in soil ! so im hoping i dont fucking kill it whilst trying to clean the roots
 
Cool setup. Thats why I always buy in 2's I would paint it black did it come in that pink color?
 
what do u mean thats why u allways buy in 2's ? the one i have is blue sorry* i wouldnt need to paint it black would i ? there is alot of movement in the water from the bubble i doubt algea would grow
 
end result , i fucked up i use the wrong glue on the tubing hole and now my water has gone milky lol , o well im gonna buy some new glue now
 
Do you have a gardening store or a hydroponics store in your area? All the supplies to get a nice reservoir going are actually pretty cheap and you seem to be pretty intuitive to assemble such a set up.

bongsmilieGood decision. Life will be so much easier. Also, the one thing I tried to not use my first grow was one of the drain valves that Stealth Hydro sells. Get one or two or three just to have them on hand. They are so nice to have. The less your roots see light the better. So the less you have to open the top the less light gets in there. Also, don't go too big with you reservoir. I go with 10 gallon sterilite from wal-mart. $4.00. Fill it with 6 gallons and use 4" (3.75") net pots. Or 5 gallon buckets. HAVE FUN MAN!!
 
You will have much better results with buying a black rubbermade container.
Also get yourself some Panda-Film (black and white plastic), or some mylar and cut enough to cover the lid of your resevoir.
This will make sure that any light is bouncing back up and not just getting absorbed by the black lid.
